FPS roguelikes

Maybe someone needs to combine that mod with OBLIGE and add permadeath to make an actual roguelike version of doomRL in the Doom engine.

I also really liked Heavy Bullets, though it’s not as deep as other games mentioned. [/quote]

Let me throw in a good word for Heavy Bullets as well. Its lack of depth is a legit drag on its long-term replayability, but I found the randomization worked more to mix things up for the several hours it will take you to eventually beat the game/final boss rather than make it something you would play forever after that point.

Also it looks awesome. Go ahead, look at it.

Add in the interesting ā€œyou only have six bullets to start with so you have to go and retrieve them after each time you shoot themā€ twist and I found it to be a good time until I got good enough to finish it. By that point you start to know it too well and it only has so much to mix up.

Heavy Bullets yes yes yes

You can effectively achieve that as is. Generate maps, fire it up with the DoomRL Arsenal, and repeat the process on death.

It’s not out yet, but have you heard of STRAFE?

If nothing else I found out I bought eldritch 2 years ago and should try it.

I played the demo of strafe when they were doing the kickstarter and wasn’t feeling it, but it was very early so i remain hopeful the final version will be a bit more solid

I think the demo didn’t even have procedural generation fully in place. It was a single, fixed level, right?

Bunker Punks out now, early access. Also has a terrible trailer.

I’m eyeballing ā€œEnter the Gungeonā€ which I guess released today. And I’m posting about it in this thread despite it not being an FPS. It looks closer to Binding of Isaac with the shooting of Nuclear Throne. The main problem with Binding of Isaac is that the action feels sloppy and bad, and this game looks like it might fix that?

I can’t stop myself from buying these indie roguelikes, so I’ll probably end up getting this eventually.

I kind of hated the name until I realized everything in the game is gun themed (you fight anthropomorphic bullets and your ā€œheartsā€ are composed to two red bullets and there are a bunch of dumb visual gags with guns). That’s pretty cute.

EDIT: I think it runs at 60 fps!
