FPGA World Tour

it’s been proposed analogue might have done this so as not to cannibalize future potential products (where to go after N64 after all ?) tho i think there’s probably still demand for rerelease or revisions on the nt line ?

these are back in stock

This seems likely.
They want to sell individual home consoles.

Alright, alright, Rudy’s post about playing B3313 on a MiSTer finally put me over the line – I want one of these bad boys!

I just wanna put a bunch of consoles on it (including PSX, N64, and Saturn). I’m gonna simply hook it up to a 55’ flatscreen LED TV. What MiSTer should I get? What’s currently available? It’s very intimidating to get into this because it seems like it’s a bunch of fly-by-night individuals putting out small batches of hardware.

Mister Pi (affordable clone board) from here is probably what you want (SuperStation One is also good if you want to use real PS1/2 pads for PS1):

if you want a “real” (more expensive) mister, get one from here probably:

this is also an option (newer, cheaper aliexpress clone board):

and the older, more expensive aliexpress variant that nonetheless has some niceties:

Thanks, that’s really helpful! What’s the difference between a Mister Pi and a “real” MiSTer?

nothing important, basically. i’m not sure i could accurately describe it other than to say, when the qmtech (newer aliexpress clone) and taki udon (retroremake clone) boards came out, there had to be some changes* made to the N64 core to build a core that worked on both. but that’s no longer an issue, so…

*not in the functioning of the core sense, just in nuances in the compilation of the core in quartus, if that makes any sense

You’re the best, thanks! Time to see what waitlists I can get on, lol. Will probably go for the Mister Pi.

you’re already going for it but I think the main distinction between the Qtech and the Pi is that the Pi was cloned with the idea that it would be compatible with the existing ecosystem of Mister accessories (and vice versa, to some extent), so you can get by just getting the base board and RAM from RR and always pick up other things like a hub or case or IO board later on so long as they’re compatible with the original board

One important note is the RetroCastle on aliexpress is the only one with a dedicated power button on the unit. Everything else you have to get a clicker on the power cable.

I have an original misteraddons one and I set up a qmtech one for a friend recently and the only thing I wish the qmtech one did differently was have more usb ports, which is obviously fixable with a hub so not a big deal

I ended up ordering the QMtech kit because nothing else was available! I would have gone for the MiSTer Addons kit or MisterPi but god knows when I’d actually be able to buy either of those. The QMtech seems like it’ll do the job fine though, and it’s way cheaper than some of the other options.

with latest mister pi preorder round gone awol, taki seemingly preoccupied with joycon shells and ipod screens and the analogue3d stealth-delayed until end of june… beginning of Tariff Era aches n pains for this market ?

I am sure Taki is taking this well.

I’m not mad at all about the insane boutique N64 box getting delayed

I’m mad that it took the 8bitdo controller with it
