FPGA World Tour

I hate those little stripes in the corner on those things.

it looks like shit, but it being a palmer luckey product is a better reason to not fuck with it

Supposedly the Chromatic was supposed to have an optional rechargeable battery, but it isn’t available at launch, and I doubt they’ll ever make it.

Alongside the console they launched Chromatic branded Gameboy games.
Even the people reviewing the Chromatic are ignoring this, so I can’t imagine it’ll be a successful side of the business.

Supposedly the version of Tetris they made for it is good, but I gotta imagine someone rips that sooner or later, allowing us all to again deny Palmer Luckey money.

I can’t imagine it would be better than Tetris Rosy Retrospection.

I think Traumatarium Penitent is the only Chromatic game with a digital release which is a shame because I could see paying $10 to support some of these devs, but $40 is a bit steep. I don’t need carts I have an everdrive.

Yeah, their version of Tetris was pretty legit! Though Rosy Retrospection is better because it has the original music and aesthetic but it lacks the full color.

Actually, is there a color mod for Rosy Retrospection??

I haven’t tried it, but there is a color mod.

@Rudie continuing re: DOS games from the games you played thread, the flynnsbit top 300 pack does have some nice features - it’s better set up for MT-32 music. if you want a copy i can probably share it with you through mediafire or something

I got it already I am just being fussy.

SNES savestates core update

Update:

  • The savestates.bin file is now auto loaded as boot1.rom. This requires unstable Main from today.
  • Fixed first state load after core load.
  • Add DSP cart support.

I must admit the Chromatic has piqued my interest if they actually release the battery pack it’ll surpass the modded Game Boy Color scene. People say the buttons are good. The original resolution screen is interesting. The case design is supposedly pretty good; durable and comfortable. A subtle nice touch is that it has no boot screen it boots directly into the games.

It’s main competitor is the FPGBC which is cheaper has usb-c charging and a bigger screen, but so-so buttons and timing inaccuracies and an ugly boot screen. It has the original nostalgic Game Boy Color case design. It has Game Boy and Game Boy color cores whereas I think the Chromatic only does a Game Boy Color core, giving the FPGBC better display options for original Game Boy games.

Compared to an Analogue Pocket, the Chromatic costs almost as much and only plays Game Boy and Game Boy Color games whereas the Pocket is an FPGA powerhouse capable of SNES, Genesis, Neo Geo, and adding save states to Game Boy and Game Boy Color.

The Chromatic only makes sense as an alternative to a modded GBC. A really nice way to play GBC games specifically, and an okay way to play original Game Boy games. As it stands without the battery pack I think the usb-c FPGBC seems a little better, but maybe they’ll surprise me and actually release the battery pack.

Not having an SD card seems like it was a mistake. In addition to making it so it wouldn’t need a flashcart to play roms, it could have had savestates, and someone could have made a Game Gear core, as the Game Gear has the same screen resolution, but as is it’ll only ever be able to play Game Boy and Game Boy Color games, which is a shame considering it could have been one of the best ways to play Game Gear games too.

This $6 aliexpress bluetooth adapter doesn’t work with my mister, how could I have been betrayed like this

Hopefully the other cheap electronics in my order do work and I can try out tapto this week

you’re pairing controllers through the Mister interface not the horrid bluetooth script right? That script never works I probably complained about it 500 posts ago.

I didn’t know there was a non-script option

The script says it can’t find a bt adapter and I can’t blame it for not having drivers because apparently windows 10 doesn’t either

Thank me for me.
