¡forza horizon 5!

i think what i disliked about the last forza horizon i played was just that all of the progression and goal clearing stopped me from driving to tell me that i did the thing

can i turn all of those mini cutscenes that pop up every time i so much as drive down the street? is that a thing that still happens?

Incidentally, did y’all like SSX 3?

@spacetown adores it that’s not fair

I think this is a good successor in that context!

just to be clear i haven’t played a forza horizon since 2 so i’m just uninformed at this point

i liked it! i just wished that the game would stop preventing me from playing the game! i also thought it was a missed opportunity considering the game is diegetically centered around a music festival to not have like all of the info delivered via the radio so the player could just keep driving

somehow like @BustedAstromech i have become a dj atomika apologist

Is FH still themed around playing influencers and trying to raise your influence?

Oh, they can almost do this! Next game, able to assume SSDs as a baseline, if they can enshrine a value: ‘the player never, ever stops driving’, and religiously hold it – just seamless transitions into and out of races, all celebrations around the player with full control in their vehicle. It’d fix all their terrible scenes centered around the terrible avatars and put a real focus on whether breaks to the map to force progression are necessary.

It’d take a director with vision to force it through, but…

no, they toned this down significantly by 4, though the tone is obviously there

(I tried the club 2 or something which was intolerable in this regard by comparison)

SSX 3 is incredible and nobody can convince me otherwise.

DJ Atomika is good, actually

is 3 better than tricky? i almost fired up tricky the other day

the contrast between board on ice sound and board on snow sound in that game is like. fuckin canonical

SSX Tricky is level-based, SSX 3 puts all of the “courses” on a mountain you can ride from top to bottom continuously. Both are great in different ways

i guess my last point of context for my thoughts on FH is that it’s free with game pass and i just enjoy the feel of the driving, even casually and just around the world, doing stuff at whatever pace i feel like it, listening to a streaming drum and bass radio station. like that’s the right combination of things for me to ignore how awful its aesthetics are, but i get it might not click for everyone

This and Psychonauts 2 have been interesting to watch reach wider audiences as a function of Game Pass. Removing the marginal per-game payment (and the download, if you stream it) makes it more akin to checking out a TV show in cost.

i like to watch all the cutscenes to appreciate the intricate anime wrap i always download for every car i drive.

sorry
