Final Fantasy Seven Rebirth Thread One

Guardians of the Galaxy is entirely this with an “okay” video game on top. It’s great.

Three months late I’ve finally started this.

Only 3 hours in but having a great time. Wondering when they are gonna let me play the game. This is too many systems to expect an adult to care about.

When it says “Your relationship with X has changed” I just about screamed. Don’t make all my conversations a fucking video game. i am gonna follow my dang heart.

The Game hasn’t started yet but I have narrowed my eyes and gone “what if I ignored everything and burned through this as fast as possible?”

Just as a contrasting opinion sometimes these people talked so fucking much that I could complete the dumb little zelda puzzles faster than they were done talking and the new commentary voice lines about me finishing the puzzle would run over the old commentary voice lines about establishing the puzzle. I thought it was miserable.

As folks have said this is almost too much video game. If we were reasonable this is too much video game.

Very PSP like in that you can almost certainly do something in a 15 minute span, save, and turn it off.

It is definitely too much video game. I love it, but it’s too much video game. I had to take a break after the Dyne stuff. I’m looking forward to getting back to it once I’ve recharged a bit on it though.

it’s interesting cuz like, most of the time when games like this are “too much” it’s cuz it’s a lot of bullshit that sucks. in this game it’s basically all good all the time imo, so it’s a question of at what point is there just objectively Too Much of a videogame no matter how good it is, and Rebirth proves conclusively that it’s “less than this”

i’m really glad square did this, and now that they’ve done it i hope they never ever do it again

yeah i mean based off their whining about sales figures this past year some part of me is wondering if we will even see part 3, or what it’s going to look like, at this point. i feel like Rebirth might represent some aspect of Square we aren’t going to see again for a long, long time

I mean, the sales figures are only bad because the PS5 install base isn’t great – this feels like question-begging. whatever design elements in this game are or aren’t too much (says I, waiting for the PC release) probably have very little impact on its sales

idk - SE seems pretty corporate brained lately, and based off what the other major players are doing, and the fact that they have already said they are shifting focus in the future based off this past year’s sales figures, it doesn’t seem hopeful to me

otoh, does Square have any other Brand with the reach of a FF7 attached to it?
They can sell merch for FF9 and yeah, some nerds will plunk down the cash and be happy/shout loud, but that’s it.

Remake FF7 and you have a far bigger audience and opportunities to milk $$$:
Soundtracks for 7#1 and 7#2, Figurines, Plushies, Special Limited Editiones, etc.pp.

If any “big” title would be a safe bet for an ailing SQEX, it would be 7#3, because you have all those 7#2 (and 7#1) folks waiting/having a guaranteed sale on whatever platform it’ll drop — instead of any new Yoko Taro game, DQ or SaGa, which would be bigger bets than part tres.
Or so is my feeling, which might be horribly out of touch with the industry, granted!

It’s also got the trilogy problem where most people haven’t played Remake and feel weird about going straight to Rebirth. I assume the sales would normalise eventually once it has a few years on PC as well.

I’m not sure what project Square would be willing to invest in that’s bigger than FF7 Remake trilogy that isn’t an MMO or some weird transmedia/AI thing.

I’m in Lower Junon. I feel like I am keeping my promise to myself. It was fun to run to one end for a side-quest, realize that I hadn’t Unlocked Chocobo, so had to run back to the other side. I won’t be fooled in the 3rd and 4th Open Areas!!

I am playing with Japanese voices and English subs and wow good job on the localizers for capturing the spirit but not the words, and I mean that. This game is extremely Japanese. I feel if I heard any of the other dubs I would short circuit. There is this absolute pile of cultural cues to everything that I am not a S-E Localizer and thus am not charged with translating. The dialog and characterization is way way way better than the first game. Legit shocked by this because while I didn’t play the DLC I did watch the secret bonus and I couldn’t believe how bad the dialog was there. They really found their footing.

I think Chacley and MIA are supposed to be annoying? I just had a battle where they just talked over it the entire time. On that note again I am shocked how many of the characters are identifiably Japanese Gen-Z.

This game makes me want a 4K TV! I wanna see all these dang graphics as hard as possible. 16 didn’t do that, but then again this thread might as well be called “SB confirms FF7 Rebirth better than FFXVI.” What else were we to do with our PS5s.

Piano Mini Game? Fort Condor? Just Leave! i didn’t do that in the original and I am not doing it here. I do just enough of the side-content to be confident then I push forward. And now that I have a healthy base on the characters and materia I might power through.

I am shocked how much of Riven is in the world. Particularly around Junon. It had to be on the vision board. Warm tingly Riven feelings.

So far I give it 4 out of 5 inn rooms. One room gets knocked off because I can see the moments where it is absolutely wasting my time for no reason:

  • When I complete a task, get the result screen for completing a task, then have chacley call me to say “hey you did the task” Yeah Bud I Know. Then I have to wait till Cloud unfreezes

  • clouds stealth speed, climbing, and push things is infuriatingly slow.

  • in battle simulator that 3 second pause just for the result screen you have to be kidding me Fast Travel in this game is instant

  • all the times I gotta do a weird rhythm mini-game to scan something so Chacley can call me to tell me I scanned something.

I see the Matrix a little too hard on those because it is so thoughtful in other places I can’t believe the secret Time Extentions aren’t also thoughtful.

Maybe when it comes to PC someone can mod it so whenever Chutney talks you just hear and read a single Chocobo Wark.

I’d take a mod where anytime the post-mission jabber starts it’s just Cloud stopping to idly check the time or weather on his device instead. Would feel more natural.

Chadley wants so bad to be part of the team but basically everyone is annoyed with him all the time so he gets relegated to town.
Also you can hang up on Chadley by holding triangle, which while not a perfect solution at least speeds things up a little bit and is satisfying in its own way.

ooooh i can see the secret Yoko Taro Gold Saucer date option: Chadley, only that he is going on a Revenge Date w/ the player, because you did cut him off all.the.time.

Comedy Splatter SFX and horror movie vibes included — perfect, sold! :servbotsalute:

I’m at Costal De Sol at 21 hours.

This is a great game to Spotify to.

The moogles look like a plucked chicken that was made into a teddy bear.

Good Job on everyone not spoiling some big surprises that I am not even going to mention.

In Chapter 9, 40 Hours in.

After over 70 hours and 3 months, I have finished Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and while I like so many things about the game, I am sad to say I think it’s ultimately pretty bad
