Is it Quebec French or France French because Quebec French would probably be the most cringe thing ever
Two (ish) points of interest here that didn’t occur to me when I played most of FFVII last year (probably because they weren’t written-in to begin with):
-
a greater focus on the slum dwellers complaining of destitution/economic hardships as a direct response to the reactor bombings
-
Aeris (not Aerith FFS) taking an equal interest in both nature and the industrial, man-
made structures that surround it -
on second thoughts wasn’t she overly enamoured with Cosmo Canyon or just the observatory?
while I can only imagine how insecure ubisoft montreal is made to feel about it, I don’t think they’d let the quebecois anywhere near a game dub
I get preferring Aeris over Aerith, I guess, but why am I registering a lot of outright hate for the th here?
poisoning the waters of Quebecois localizations forever is the best thing that came out of Mario Galaxy
should i play real ffvii steam version or psx emulate
Emulate, running pre-rendered backdrop games above 2x resolution breaks any sense that characters exist in the world. It’s much more impressive to look at it in its own context.
ok thank you i played the steam version for ten minutes last night and was like jesus this can’t be right, just wanted to hear somebody else say it
just hit me that i have finished the original in the time it has taken me to get to chapter 10 of this
I haven’t seen a single case in 20 years where the anglicizations they chose in the SNES and playstation era don’t generally roll off the tongue better than what they’ve revised them to. this is one of the less egregious ones maybe but even so! I know that past a certain point it’s like insisting on saying Peking but it just seems worse in every case, so the minor ones grate more.
what’s the definitive snes rom version of ff6
i like this one best right now
Aerith is better than Balbaneth at least
also oh my god i made it to wall market & it’s perfect
I just had aeris join at what it claims is hour nine and based on what it’s done so far I’d feel better if that were more like hour 7 but even then that’s allowing for a story that’s told 3x as slowly as the original which is pretty impressive that they pulled if off
I really deeply enjoyed the ted woolsey uncensored edition, which keeps the original 1994 script as intact as possible while mixing in the improvements from the gba version, restoring cut content and censored material, as well as a host of other unobtrusive but appreciable improvements.
if you can, play it on retroarch with the vulkan renderer so you can utilize supersampling. makes an enormous difference with making the 3D sprites blend in even better with the prerendered backdrops. it looks truly amazing this way especially with a good crt shader.
i think most will prefer this one for its preservation of font, though i feel like the font selection for the ‘relocalization’ i linked above also works well and looks really nice with retroarch shaders. plus the modified gba script is a really nice ‘best of both worlds’
these would be two of the strongest hacks afaik!
yeah, I haven’t played the one you linked, but it also looks very good!
