VF4 the greatest
How are the communities for the old SNK games that have had rollback netcode added to them? Is that stuff playable? Are the communities building around them? Also, uh, how do I know which version of them has the rollback netcode? I feel like this stuff has been splintered w/ so many releases across all the different PC platforms.
That’s like classic VF rapid punch TOD combos, except with a glitchy flying kick.
About the same as any other old game I think, i.e. matchmaking isn’t going to be super reliable at all (any?) times of day. The netcode itself is really good but they’re old games. The rollback was typically added after the game was released and it’s harder to build a community for an old game than it is to sustain one for a new game. And most of all, Code Mystic’s rollback implementation doesn’t support 3+ person lobbies. It’s strictly 2 players only, which makes rotating games among a group difficult and there’s no spectating (so it’s more difficult to stream, an important part of growing communities nowdays).
Fightcade and the like are probably still the easiest methods to just hop on and find a match, outside of pinging people in discords.
The games with rollback are, I believe:
KOF97 Global Match
Last Blade 2
Garou Mark of the Wolves
Samurai Shodown 5 Special
It’s nice to see Shion isn’t forgotten.
Oh and I guess a Samurai Shodown port was announced for next gen consoles (only Xbox confirmed at the moment since it was announced at the Xbox TGS event).
that samurai shodown reboot is nice but I really wish they could find a way to promote it other than with domestic abusers winning tournaments or charging full price for it on every platform without anything resembling a modern training mode or single player
I have it on both PC and PS4 if you ever want to play it sometime. I’ve never tested out the rollback implementation myself but people say it’s generally pretty good. It wasn’t perfect way back when it hit the public branch and I’m not sure if it’s improved since then, but even then people were playing cross-continental on it and having good games.
Virtua Fighter is coming back… maybe somehow?
Yo, I’ve been gone for almost exactly one year. I just saw that Virtua Fighter reboot tease and now my pants are sticky and I feel like I want to savor this moment with y’all. What a time to be alive. If this is the real deal then 2020 is officially SAVED and my future is looking bright because I will spend thousands of hours in this new game… IF the online is good. You just jinxed it.
don’t curse it
wild that capcom probably spent at least 500k-1 million on a cg teaser that has never been seen outside of that single panel
it’s insane and widespread
the audience for million-dollar ‘spec videos’ are executives who can’t project greybox work and design docs to a real thing, but they justify it by running a few focus tests
…of something that has no relation to anything being worked on
speaking of, it absolutely rules that the determining factor of that project getting axed was the sales of a fucking xbla port of vampire savior
sure, maybe it has only the most tenuous of connections to what we’re doing,
but it’s a number, dammit, and you know what happened last time we ignored 5, to say nothing of 7
Hi BBP
Tekken 7 is getting proper rollback in Season 4. Impressions from Markman who tested it in this Twitter thread:
tl;dr: San Diego to Atlanta felt “offline”, San Diego to Japan felt “shockingly playable”. Very excited about this
This is why we need virtua fighter back.
