as a professional picker of nits, haver of it both ways, and legitimizer of emulation, I really admire the attempt to actually engage with the compromises here, even though I do think the entire premise is still fundamentally unjustified, given what we know about market effects and externalities around β€œdefinitive editions” of games being the only ones for sale &c. &c.

i’ve also been playing this! (albeit on PS4, or else i’d say let’s team up)

Didn’t the shopkeeper noblewoman in Latria sing when you were near her? I think I’ve realized that the chanting BGM in Latria must actually just be her and she’s used as a diagetic BGM track instead of the towers being filled with grunts and bells and Rydyells. Except her singing doesn’t seem to get noticeably louder when I get near her so I’m not 100% sure if I fabricated the memory of the singling lady.

And as much clowning as there is about the PS+ Exclusive help videos, I actually did end up using it to find some doorway I kept missing, the one you need to go to after you pick up the key on the arrow bridge with the t-posing statue ballista. So I guess mission accomplished by Sony there.

I like how on that pathway leading up to the prisoner above the Fool’s Idol fight people have been putting messages β€œBeginners should try here later” to try and get new players to fight the boss first and get extremely confused.

nah, you are right. i remember the singing stopping when you prompt dialogue with her.

i was watching Jimquisition’s review of Demon’s souls ps5 and… I really wanted to like this remake, but the characters look like action figures!
I don’t want to seem to be bashing the game for free, but everything that makes the atmosphere of a From Software game special, has been killed here…

It’s totally off.
Let’s take Bloodborne: it’s hazy for a reason. The art is part of the game, it’s like a horror van gogh. If it was done differently (like a cartoon), the mood would have been killed.

every time i see the fire effects, i cannot believe it

Disgusting.

Considering how similar the descriptions are in the original, I think standardizing this type of no-nonsense item description is fine

Sorry, I was flipping between the two to show that one of them was missing a period.

I feel like I’m experiencing a Twilight Zone episode in which I’m being fed a version of Dark Souls One that is more janky than it actually was in the original version. I am probably just misremembering the entire From experience

ok that one’s pretty wild

their shield slam did always have extra range in front, like a shockwave that breaks your guard open if trying to lame them out

it also only does like 50 damage but that’s about as much hp as you had lol

In Dark Souls 2, we call those shockwaves.

The Souls games have always been far jankier than their unfortunate β€œperfect game for hardcore gamers game” reputation.
