Fatigued Souls (Part 1)

one of my funniest deaths in any of these games was from the gaping dragon. The charge attack hurtbox extends all along its underside, including a little past the base of its tail, and doesn’t stop taking effect until a moment after it stops moving. So i ran up to attack its tail, touched the edge of the invisible ouch parameter and immediately dropped dead. It looked exactly like the dragon farted on me and killed me

It rules that you’re that unspoiled! i’m strangely jealous because i can never have that feeling again. I picked master key as my gift the first time i played and bumbling into places i wasn’t supposed to be yet was really exciting

Me too! Best/worst decision ever

ive read beginners guides that recommended against it and im always like, ā€œnah, do it, Do Itā€

Yeah it was really stupid and awesome. Getting smashed to death by Havel is a very memorable moment. I went without it this time because I wanted to be a little more constrained to the ā€œproperā€ path, but also get a better feel for the design of the areas.

I got quelaag second try as well. This game’s reputation for difficulty is striking me as very strange right now. Like, so far it peaked at Sif, and before that was the gargoyles. The difficulty curve is very strange, in fact, and while the areas and bosses seem more intimidating, right now they’re actually getting easier?

I mean, the big lava boy seems stupidly difficult right now but I’m guessing there’s just some strategy I’m not seeing. I’ll probably want to come back here later - for now I want to go see what ringing the second bell did (it opened a gate (is this sen’s fortress???))

Plus I have some big titanite so I can make my scythe more badass.

Yeah, that’s because Sif is the hardest boss you can reach early. The game doesn’t really expect you to open the expensive forest door (or find the back entrance to the deep forest that’s defended by the hydra) until later, and if you do not necessarily challenge Sif until you beat him. I beat Sif after O&S and I think most people do.

A cool thing about DkS1 is that everyone has a different ā€œstoryā€ of what order they did things in.

That would kind of explain the trajectory here, because I grinded out a fair amount of levels just to beat Sif, so now everything is a little simpler. It’s kind of nice, really, and unlocking what appears to be at least one of the top 3 souls grinding spots in the game was really important for giving me a sense of ā€œyeah, I can do this.ā€

I like that the difficulty of the bosses is vague enough that I have a hard time determining whether I’m hitting a meat wall and should go somewhere else, or if I should try and power through. 5 years ago this just frustrated me but now I find it interesting.

Perhaps it is that the entirety of Lordran and it’s nether regions are Dark Souls’ Nexus (rather than just Firelink Shrine). The Undead Asylum and Painted World are levels 1-1 and 3-2. All other archstones are broken.

Why did I post that.

Um… why didn’t anyone tell me the Short Sword is better than the Long Sword?

Sl1 with only a +5 ghost blade is a lot of fun. Still completely doable without feeling like your cheesing the game with pyro.

Isn’t there two Flame Hands in the game…? Maybe just go with the upgraded one for extra spice?

I think it works on some bosses - I got Sif to bleed once using the great scythe. I think I might have gotten Chaos Witch to bleed too. God I love this scythe. I just upgraded it to +8, gonna take this thing all the way

has there been any word on a dark souls (ptde preferrably) quarantine event? that would own

liike… uh, just imagine i wrote some more ic-style navel gazing about the nature of social distancing and how it applies to this game about people existing on entirely different planes of distorted reality in a weird, dying world

fuck yeah

insert my meditation on how walking into a subway is like walking into an instance of Dark Souls where the ghosts and past customers of every subway affect my experience
