to speak only for myself, depop does contain a profound misery in the form of all the big stores which are teens who live with with rich parents who got loans to buy a shitton of clothes and start a business, and who go to thrift stores and just buy everything that either has a name brand logo on it or which has other Recognizable Brand Identifiers like disney characters or which looks like ~vintage~ to them, so that they can buy it all for 2 dollars a pop and then sell it for like 60 bucks each on depop, and then get to call themselves entrepreneurs as they continue to make thrift store prices go up while they could easily afford to drip themselves in gucci.
granted theyre not the ONLY people on depop, but theyre the big ones. i think you can prolly find gems on the app still, but i do feel a certain kind of despirited by the existence of the Millionaire Influencer Teens who spend 500 dollars at the thrift store and then turn around and make like 12000 dollars.
also it just physically pains me that at least a few years ago a big thing was they would just cut the bottom half of a shirt off to make it a crop top and not even bother to give it a new hem, they’d just leave it raw
