This show would come on whatever local TV channel it was that played syndicated episodes of (I think) Seinfeld, Frasier, and Just Shoot Me starting at like 10 PM or something.
RYM defines âurbanâ as Imagery of a city, especially the lives of urban communities or individual people within a metropolis. An atmospheric descriptor, if you will, but I am also looking for both imagery and sensory examples. For example, MTV Downtown has both the âlookâ and âsoundâ. But I can take something that looks âurban,â but does not sound âurban.â Or something that sounds âurban,â but does not look âurban.â
My other inspiration behind this is the anime adaptation to Blood Blockade Battlefront, specifically its follow up, Beyond. The story is about a bustling city arguably modeled after New York districts where powered humans and demons live in what is supposed to be a divide between the human realm and the demon world. It is what Yasuhiro Nightow wrote and drew since Trigun. I am not so invested in the story or cast, but I got sold with its sound track.
It has some boring classical pieces, but it mostly has some jazz pieces, so far so good, right? I would not call myself a huge jazz fan, but this album and its follow up (Beyondâs OST), got me to see the symbiotic relationship between jazz and hip hop. I have liked acid jazz, nu jazz, and jazz rap, but those are not pure jazz genres in the strict sense. They are more like soul, r&b, funk, hip hop, and electronic music that just happen to be jazz influenced.
But Beyondâs OST is a huge double album that has one CD with hip hop pieces and featured collabs, and another CD that is just jazz pieces with the occasional vocals. And those eventually got me to be more open minded to pure jazz, and not just the other genres I like that borrow from jazz, but are not strictly like jazz. I donât know if I am going to give any shit about Blood Blockade Battlefront, but it got the âlookâ and the âsoundâ of what I follow.

And yes, I did read the other replies, I just could not think about anything indepth to say about them. If you have heard about the spoon theory, it is like, spell charges in Final Fantasy 1 NES (and Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 1). My depression has got worse since May, and a lot of things I used to be able to do at ease now feel like they take a huge amount of energy to get done right for my OCD not to get triggered. That is why I have left my Discord.
Donât want other people to think that I am ghostinâ, ignorinâ, and avoidinâ whenever my replies stop or slow down. I am the same way in Discord chat. I would start typing a few things, then I am gone for most of the day / night. It is among the reasons I donât post on threads that I donât make anymore. I hate the idea that I would reply, then I would be gone for a while, then when I am back, the thread went too fast and/or has been axed while gone.

This might be a hot take, the first three Persona, especially the third one, are very urban style. Unlike the older Shin Megami Tensei games up to that point, even If, Persona 1-3 place emphasis in exploring the city and its nearby places. The previous games were mostly post apocalyptic settings in a futuristic time.
Soul Hackers might be an exception as it is both urban and sci fi, people might think cyberpunk canât be urban enough to count, but there are cyberpunk cities that are not fully dystopian, but just Y2K design choices. I feel there is legit cross appeal in their design and fashion style.

Which King of Fighters has the most urban sound track? One that sounds like Street Fighter III: 3rd Impact which had Breakbeat, Hip Hop, Drum and Bass, Acid Jazz? I will also accept a King of Fighters sound track that has funk sub genres, r&b sub genres, and soul sub genres. Not only hip hop jazz.

I have known all about Basquash due to that one brown girl being featured in the brown anime girl tm charts. I have heard mixed reviews and opinions, but I would like to give it an honest try, as a lover for brown, black, mixed, ethnic character in animation. Especially well written ones.
I know that anime is not going to be well written, it sells itself on its premise and it is all the better for it. It is like trying Girls und Panzer or Battle Athletes, you know you are in for a dumb story, but you look for that ride. It sure as fuck it is not Slam Dunk or Kurokoâs Basketball in its setup.
I think âstreetâ and âurbanâ design could work hand in hand. Like as much as EA Sports are known in being lazy and less than stellar games, NBA Street are neat sports games with real licensed hip hop songs. It is not like that Rap Jam SNES basketball game with barely any sound.
Rap Jam blew all its budget in the rights to use the likeness from famous hip hop artists with none of the music. NBA Jam got very few songs, but what you lacked in music, they made up with tight arcade action along far more sport team variety. NBA Street 1-3 deliver on art and music.

Jokes aside. I am glad I have a chance to thank you for the MySpleen invite you gave me years ago, when I was looking for a means to watch The Real World: New York in its original version. The TV rips kept the licensed music which came in handy when I re-saw it in Paramount+
For some reason the Paramount+ watch for New York are missing all its licensed music, even though Los Angeles has all the licensed music intact. Donât know for the other seasons yet. They have S1-S5 and a big gap until S9, but I plan to stop with the London cast, their best and the last good season before it got all forced.
The guys who made Mission Hill pitched it to MTV at first, as The Down Towners, but MTV felt that was too similar to what they had in Downtown. The Mission Hill staff got salty about it, and they did one episode where Andy moves in with The Real World house while they were doing a taping, making fun of the entire setup.
