I have been thinking about what āurbanā media means in a modern context and the first cartoon that came to mind was MTV Downtown, which I think is a huge anomaly in western animation (or even anime). There is nothing else like it and there might be nothing else like it in the future. What media (animation, cinema, comics, games, music, television, etc.) makes you think about āurban?ā Be it in imagery or sensory. Anything can work.
I realize that it is an unusually brief topic starter this time around, but I have been going through shit offline for most of the year. I might not be online often enough to keep this thread from getting axed, so a short opening post helps me make the thread as many times as needed to pick up where I left off in my findings. āUrbanā as the main descriptor for media was kind of dominated by its use as a euphemism for Black-focused/targeted works for years. Iām guessing it originated with the āurbanā format for radio stations that primarily played R&B and hip hop after the eclectic dance stations of the mid 80s got consolidated and homogenized and changed to that āall the hits without the rapā format. Itād be pretty common for the more tenaciously entrenched ma and pa video stores in the 90s to have an āurbanā shelf or aisle.

Iām not sure exactly which definition of āurbanā this thread is asking for (but I also initially assumed the euphemistic use that @LaurelSoup explained and I thiiink thatās what this thread is asking for?).
