Apparently the Japanese lobbies are now full of people just hanging out and stuntin’ in low riders instead of racing.

I mean, I’m sure the stories are embellished, but that’s a cool way to enjoy the update until they fix it.

that’s the kind of anecdote that makes me think the people are still alright, just wanting to hang out and make the most of the deck they’re dealt, so coool :kissing_smiling_eyes::ok_hand:

been playing forza horizon 4, what a wonderful and vibrant game. steam review describing it as a “larger, more colorful world than our own” was right on. this is one of the purest video-gamey video games i’ve played recently. concept like, what if the entire world was about automobiles (positive)? what if you could do collecting and exploring and rallycross and street racing and photoshoots and stunt driving and Lego driving and monster trucks and … girlfriend watched a few minutes and declared it “pokemon with cars” which feels right. really wonderful and I’m glad I picked it up on sale before they delist it from Steam. Favorite car so far is, of course, the Ken Block classic, Hoonigan Gymkhana 9 Ford Focus RS RX 2016 - ‘Welcome Pack’ edition, which is ridiculously torque-y and grippy at the same time.

i’ll say it: i love open world collectathons? like i’m one of those people that got all the little feathers and treasure boxes in assassin’s creed 1. this one is both a collectathon in the typical ways (go here, do this quest, get item) and also specifically a car collectathon, sort of a love letter to automobile history (somewhat belied by the physics). very tempting to get into completing your car-pokedex. i’ve set my initial goal as collecting all the famous rally cars and ‘rally monsters’. i wonder how much you can collect proper Le Mans cars and stuff like that.

the driving is very goofy; the fact you get points for destroying scenery sort of throws out any pretense of being not-arcadey, and the temptation is always to steamroll everything in front of you, but i have the ‘simulation’ damage setting turned on, so while it’s far from actual damage simulation my top speed is invariably capped more and more as i bash into 20 telephone poles in a row. nevertheless you do have some passingly-realistic things like taking a proper racing line, having braking points, etc; altho the grip model is way off ofc. still very fun to literally drive a car up a side of a mountain. but generally speaking i don’t love the racing, it’s way too contact-oriented and feels like a bit of a crapshoot. maybe that’s just my lack of skill idk

multiplayer: the mp integration is really wonderful. the last festival playlist is going on right now, i just got a taste of the ‘forzathon’ live events, it was really fun to see a massive gaggle of multiplayer ghosts gang up and do the stupid challenge of the day like drive off a cliff as fast as possible or run through a speed zone at top speed etc. the sort of silly-multiplayer-without-actual-contact that builds a lot of camaraderie with anonymous strangers. i haven’t really experienced that kind of culture since peak halo days (the mid oughts, let’s say) and so it was very refreshing to hear that a similar culture apparently developed among fh4 players. the levity of the thing really carries it.

overall just really impressed with the attention to detail and level of polish in this game, can easily see how people end up playing just this for 500 hours. Get the Ultimate Edition before it’s all delisted on December 15, the DLCs have already been delisted from Steam and you won’t get the fun Lego World and other licensed tie-ins without it.

sidenote the way they are sunsetting fh4 seems like a really great model; basically every car that could be only unlocked via festival playlists will subsequently be available in backstage pass that you can still earn points to buy, also true for some preorder cars, all multiplayer and online preserved. the only things that seem truly out of reach (correct me if i’m wrong) is 3 playlist-related achievements, and paid DLC cars which are still available to people who were able to purchase the DLC or Ultimate Edition

coming back to this to say that Red Bull TV has really good free 20+ minute summaries of each day of WRC rallies if you download their app

absolutely seconded, FH4 managed to hit peak chaos multiplayer mayhem, and arguably was Turn10’s biggest hit to date, both FH5 or FM8 couldn’t get close to the feeling of hanging out with total Strangers — e.g. FH5 did try changing a formula that worked well (Forzathons) and made it worse (splitting them up into multiple events, like, whyyyyyyyyy) and subsequently my siblings and friends stopped playing FH5 after a short while… and we didn’t replace that with another game yet, so it isn’t a ‘+1’ effect of moving on to other pastures

And FH4 managed to look good, even before you realize that it has been around a few years already!

man, that sounds a bit like Servus TV (an austrian TV channel

that broadcasted NASCAR recaps on Monday evening (a decade+ ago) at 1030 or 11pm, meaning i dropped by my friends house in the evening to watch Nascars crashing into each other and catching up what’s up with GFs, studying and life.

it turns out my Assetto Corsa wheel settings were a little fucked, used the configurator and it’s much more enjoyable. Lmk if anyone has good settings for a t150, I’m new to the settings world and it seems very complicated.

trying to get my head around how to hold a force feedback wheel: 9 and 3, thumbs on the rim (not wrapped around), let go when you crash to avoid injury… etc. honestly really fun but freaked me out reading about people spraining or even breaking their thumbs playing video games :exploding_head::exploding_head:

Someone is selling a Fanatec CSL Elite v1 load cell pedal set for $100 within an hour’s drive of me, does that seem worth it?I don’t have a rig but I do have 80 lbs of dumbbells behind my current pedal set lol. (T150 plastic junktastics)

This guy put a sport bike engine in the back of a nissan leaf turning it into a hybrid of sorts.

These guys took a front wheel drive V8 car and put a second front wheel drive V8 sub-frame in the trunk to create an AWD twin engine car. In a later episode they turbo charged it and doubled the power again.

The lesson seems to be that to make a not-awd car into an AWD car its best to start with a FWD car as the front is the most complicated zone.

Most Corvettes use identical hardware at all 4 corners so you could turn a corvette into a 4 wheel steering car without great difficulty. To what end Ive no idea

she’s adorable! and she has an amazing story too: actress turned co-driver just a few years ago, now co-driving in WRC2

very excited for rally finland to properly kick off today and especially for the legendary Ouninpohja stage making its return. still rooting for m-sport and adrien formaux / martins sesks to upset the applecart of hyundai/toyota GR, though if it has to be one of the championship leaders i’m ABN (Anybody But Neuville). even he has stopped his usual complaining though, everyone seems properly excited for finland. it will be my first time watching

Re Neuville:
idk, that’s one of the drivers whose talent would have you think they’d be more successful/have one title under their belt (at least!) but after a few years (read: a decade), you kinda wonder what went wrong. OF COURSE, There Can Only Be One, and being born in a timeframe where talents like Ogier, Loeb, YariMattiLally… that Toyota Driver are blasting around, tough luck. Otoh, w/ so much change of who’s on top, you’d think that he’d have struck gold at least once - can’t think of any other world championship atm where there has been so many changes of who’s on top (Citroen, VW, Ford, Toyota in the last 10 years iirc?)

Alex Rossi in Indycar is a similar calibre of driver, and even though they are young, Pato O’Ward and Colton Herta feel like they might face the same fate (which would be a shame, because you can see how both could use a bit more tutoring and they’d be champion-material)

Anyway, Denny Hamlin, so that Championship… :tarothink:

something really cursed about this Rally Finland

  • title challenger Ott Tänak lost it on a long left and rolled then smashed into a tree on SS3 Friday - co-driver in the hospital for observation

https://www.reddit.com/r/WRC/comments/1ei3vde/video_of_the_crash/

  • Takamoto Katsuta hits a tree and rips a wheel off the car Friday and has to take the bus back to the service park - out of the running

  • hometown kid Esapekka Lappi goes into a rut and bashes up his car Friday - loses a wheel, has to retire

on Saturday, restarts, lands a jump in a rut on Ouninpohja and punctures a tire - loses time fixing it

then on Ouninpohja 2 has a tire explode while going flat out in fifth gear. doesn’t get a single full run on the legendary stage!

  • unluckiest boy in Wales, Elfyn Evans spins and breaks a driveshaft randomly on Saturday after being in the podium chase, penalized for lateness to a stage. on Sunday, slides and crashes within 20 seconds of stage start on the penultimate stage, car parts scattered all over the road (he was a nice guy and ran out to clean it up)

  • Kalle Rovanperä in the hunt for a first hometown rally win, leads the rally by a mile all weekend then rolls on the same stage as Elfyn because of a random rock in the road. car fucked

and who benefits… fucking Neuville
