checks out, deleting physics in a rally game is a pro move I always would root for!

I uninstalled the physx driver and tried the settings from that video.
The game refuses to budge from 31fps during gameplay even at 720p with the detail on the lowest possible settings.

The 31fps is actually bothering me. I’m gonna install WRC 8 in the meantime.

Speculation: a VSync half-refresh toggled in the game or the driver control panel could cause this, I’ve seen it labeled funny names in game

Today I drove home in possibly the worst conditions I’ve ever had to endure for the 3 hour drive. Constant rain, low visibility, the works. I was also driving my MR2, this is a car that is infamous for something called “snap oversteer”, and it’s rear wheel drive, and it’s wet. It’s also a small car relative to the huge lifted trucks and crossovers that are barreling past. I feel downright vunerable.
Anyway it being a 90’s japanese sports car that’s relativly rare, sometimes it gets attention. On the drive back early on a white NA (the first model) mazda miata with a white hardtop came up on my right and matched speed with me. This is kind of to see if the other driver is, I guess, “cool” with the other driver, but mainly just to check out the other car. This has happened to me several times.
Well us being both tiny 90’s rear wheel drive jdm sports cars in the middle of driving through a rainstorm, I guess we formed a 2 car convoy, they got ahead of me in the center lane and I just followed them for probably an hour through the worst of it. At times the rain and wash was so heavy I couldn’t see their taillights, but eventually I’d catch up. We went 10 under the speed limit the whole time, which felt less dicey. If he went around someone, I’d usually follow, and we’d both return to the center lane. I followed this miata for like an hour.
Anyway their exit comes up and I see they’re signaling to get off, i blip my high beams to say goodbye, and in return they flash their hazards on once. It felt so cool and wholesome to have a road buddy for an hour.

doing convoys is something that’s organic or inbuilt into our brains/behaviour, so if it happens on road, that’s something to cherish in itself - if it is a positive experience (two+ cars moving in unison) even better.
If you think about it, it improves traffic safety if e.g. the ‘rear gunner’ watches out and gives the car(s) in front enough time to switch lanes to e.g. overtake, and if someone keeps a steady, safe distance, you don’t have to calculate additional headroom for giving a tailgater a chance to brake at all if something came up. Also, given ample time to analyse your companion, you can spot behavioural traits in fellow drivers (e.g. are they always using their turn signals before turning? if yes and you see them do a quick sudden move w/o turning signal, chances are high that danger is ahead). It basically boils down to behavioural analysis, and it really is interesting what you can learn about drivers.
e.g. in bad weather conditions, for turning signals I am always using three clicks to the left, five clicks to the right before turning, to make sure that following cars have a chance to know what’s up - so even if sight would be so bad you don’t exactly see which side has lit up, you could at least guesstimate left or right.
Also, not cutting into line, keeping safe distance, letting people in your lane if they would get stuck behind a slower car/Truck/whatever …
sure, I also sometimes do wonder whether other drivers even notice, but i assume it works at least on a subconscious level, since i have often experienced people tagging along (and my Citroen barge isn’t fancy enough to command admiration or peer group fandom
) for a while … it makes those rides more worth it, because not everyone is as angry as the front fascia makes it seem
