I played through the first set of rookie teams, feels pretty good so far but I wish there were more music tracks. It’s been buttery smooth the whole time I’ve played on my desktop and it ran on my steam desk pretty well even

The loop is pretty fun, you kinda drive around racing anything you can (every car including delivery trucks and kei vans will race you) while you try and chase down rival drivers until you anger their no 1 car and probably lose because you used your tires up. You get enough points for a little upgrade, pop back in, race the leader, get a little cutscene, chase down the boss, get a bigger upgrade, repeat. The taxis all have Genki logos for the lights on the top, that’s cute

Enjoyed the few hours but I think I’m going to wait until the full release to really dig in since I’m pretty busy for the new few weeks anyway

okay okay I had to go for just one more quick little run and the game changes a lot once it lets you out of the first loop

for the first few hours I was thinking that it was pretty annoying that you had to end the night to run the loop in the other direction but now there are parking areas! you can go in, swap your tires to keep your run going, chat with people for rumors and SILLY RACER NAMES IN SPECIAL TEXT, sometimes there’s a shady dude who will sell you a temporary tuning boost, you can find other racers to challenge and I guess special kinds of races?? I did one where you race two opponents consecutively keeping your health SPIRIT POINTS between the races

anyway if you don’t leave by racing someone you get to pick which exit you take so you can take the loop the other way!

it totally makes sense but it’s cool to see how the different teams of opponents cluster around entrances, not loops necessarily - I was chasing down one group kinda working through them then I challenged someone from a different team and during the race they took an off-ramp that took me into a different loop that was more of their territory

maybe this is how the other TXR games went but this is my first one and it’s got a good rhythm to it! glad I bought into the genki hype

The full release of Tokyo Xtreme Racer added HDR and no joke that’s a better feature than doubling the story. Chasing your opponents glowing brake lights around a corner into a super bright tunnel feels sublime

The limitations of the technology such that the display will never be anywhere near as insanely bright as modern headlights really does a lot to put you that peak-JDM-cool mood you got playing gran turismo on ps1 and watching initial d

Looks like a first generation Demio?

I love it!

We didn’t get those in the states. The toilet bowl Mazda badge threw me off for a second

for a few that care, this

is such a shame, and you should go watch one of the 963s as long as they continue circling around in the US of A, they are a sight to behold (and to listen to!)
