Have y’all heard already that EA is going to buy Codemasters? Poor Codemasters
I saw that. As long as DiRT Rally 3 happens in some form, I’m not too concerned. I do hate the perpetual consolidation of these game studios though. :\
Official Car of Select Button
get ready for codemasters to get put on F1 and need for speed duty, yearly, with everything else cut.
Tho I think CodeMasters got a contract to develop the official WRC game? Who knows what the hell’s gonna happen. I’ll probably spend the rest of my life playing Richard Burns Rally with a ton of community patches.
Codemasters is doing the next WRC? Huh. I’d heard the Kylotonn WRC games had gotten pretty good with 8 and 9. Too bad for them I guess.
that is the eternal cycle of WRC games that improve from mediocre midfield to podium contenders over three+ generations, before the cycle starts anew with yet another studio. rinse and repeat.
tbh, Sebastian Loeb Rally from Milestone was good fun, and imho a good ending for Milestone’s WRC career, as was WRC Evolved on the PS2 before Milestone got the license.
So i guess that Dirt Rally 2.0 will remain the benchmark for the next cycle then.
what’s worse though, that also means that Project Cars/ex SMS is also dead, or maybe they’ll be put towards the F1 license and can slave away until they’re dead…
how do human beings drive real RWD rally cars without dying?
you have to be an effin good driver, like that Monsieur here
watching the onboard and the flyby pictures gives you an idea how different to an AWD you have to drive.
Was about to delete this bookmark since the website had been dormant for a year or two, but lo, the owner started posting again this past September
Röhrl could/can straight up buffer inputs in between reality frames. Which is about what it takes to drive that beast.
my dad had the estate version of this, a wonderful, classy car. The 505 Turbo - OSS 117-esque version, mon dieu…
there was a weekly group B challenge thing, so I figure hey, why not, let’s hop in the trusty quattro for my first ever go at group B in this game, what could go wrong?
wait, it’s fuckin 9 stages? 60-some minutes of… racing? later, I have somehow completed my goal of not suffering terminal damage. can you even get terminal damage in weekly events? I feel like you cannot. my driver surely would have died on several occasions, including the multiple times I deposited he and his very foolish co-driver in some unfortunate new zealand river. though calling anyone involved in this hellish journey a “driver” is being linguistically generous indeed. by the end I was asking the gods for mercy. I sweat enough that I had to open my window, despite it being 15 degrees (F) outside. by some miracle I ended the event in the top third of finishers, which is a very frightening proposition. I cannot imagine what anyone who finished behind me would have to have gone through, and I ask you to pray for their souls.
10/10, would do again. eventually.
9 stages?? I feel like the weeklies in that game are meant to actually be done over the course of a week because otherwise that is some serious mental strain. I have a hard time not zoning out and rolling into a ditch by the end of a single event in the starter Fulvia, which I can only imagine is a 100x worse thing to do in Group B.
Just finished a 24 stage monthy event. I played it over the course of two weekends.

“Why are cheap new cars disappearing?” video from CNBC. It made a lot of sense until that analyst basically blamed millennials for wanting technology. That’s 100% bullshit. Car makers love the fact that they can just make a car taller and fatter and charge thousands more and people will pay it. Just feeling a little spicy today as I look at my 10 year old Mazda 2 and realize there will be nothing like it available when I need to replace it.
I just got done telling someone on Facebook that years ago I had a job that put me behind the wheel of a lot of rental cars (around 2015) and a Hyundai Elantra was by far the best of the bunch. And even that one is probably getting bloated as the company tries to move up-market.
On the bright side the third gen Mazda 3 and its cousins are 90s luxury car quality while depreciating just as fast as budget Mazda.
The catfish fascia they put on the Mazda 2 to become the Toyota iA is a crime though.
Why are young people not buying cheap new cars?
Because they don’t have any money and a new car is a sucker’s deal
Now this word from our sponsor
The used car market is fucked nowadays too, my car is 11 years old and could still go for like 3 grand in a private sale.
