This is an image from a clickbait ad link. I dunno what it is. It said is a Chevy Silverado. But google images does not agree.

I honestly feel like this kind of thing would have been a better fit for the Burnout franchise but it’s probably going to be awesome anyway

I wish they would do a 4K capable GranTurismo 4. (GranTurismo 4k) The greatest Granturismo.

GT4 has such a smooth look, this fairs pretty well:

And whatever trickery the road reflections are here, is still very impressive in GT3. Also, notice how in the tunnel, each sidelight causes a swell in the shadow as the car passes:

I got a better search query so here’s more GT4K. And I don’t think that BMW video up there on the Seattle course is actually 4K. I think its probably about 720p, then upscaled. These videos are much sharper.

This track is incredible

One of the most beautiful tracks in the game

Wow yeah that game up-scales really well.

Its important to see the 917 with people next to it to realize how small it is in certain dimensions.
I saw a Gulf painted 917 a Concours D’elegance a few years ago it was very striking. Even more aeronautical looking in person. They also had many GT40s due to some anniversary. Very similar sort of presence. Sleek flat whales on the outside terrifyingly skinny scaffolding on the inside. Sad I didn’t get to hear a 917 actually run. Though watching them labor to get the GT40s running and then trying to drive slowly on wet golf grass on those giant slicks was a sight.

I’ve never really had a chance to be around some of these really crazy machines. But I think I might start looking for some opportunities, once I get moved.

I read something once about how most prototypes are much smaller than we expect because our minds assume their windshields are comparable in size to the windshields on road cars. And that skews our perspective.

It really brings them down to earth while also making real their beauty and total absurdity as objects. Especially once you get looking at like vintage open wheel racers that are just big go karts. Also youll realize that car photography is sort of convergent; there are angles you just never see and scale is nearly always a small surprise.

Oh yeah some of those cars its like the (petite) driver is wearing the sheetmetal. The whole car would fit on a large bed frame.
And the wheels. A lot of the prototypes / GT cars I saw had like 14inch (36cm) x 14inch (36cm) wheels. There is no familiar spacial logic to it.

exactly.
to put it into perspective:

The 919 compared to the 911 gives you an idea about scale, and the humans in relation to the cars as well…
