everything mission hill

anyone ever seen this cartoon? my friend introduced it to me about a month ago and it’s the funniest shit to us. i’ve completely fallen in love with the series, but unfortunately it got axed by WB because of poor ratings.. to be fair it wasnt really given a chance in the first place.

if you like laid back adult comedy with some relatability and a side of absurdity i implore you to check mission hill out.

im really interested in any kind of information regarding the series and i wish to see a reboot come out someday.

as for my favorite character, i’d have to go jim. how could i not?

definitely see similarities there! mission hill is rather expressive (atleast i think) when it comes to colors. they all complement well in a real unique way and i think its really awesome

a scene that never leaves my mind this show is so fucking stupid i love it.

I really liked this show, I remember it airing and then suddenly it was gone.

man thats awesome! i wish i could’ve seen it when it originally aired. but yeah unfortunately it got pulled. one of the creators mentioned a possible revival but went back and said it wasnt gonna happen, so not seeing much hope for its return in any capacity

there are some animatics of unfinished episodes available online i think

I remember watching Mission Hill 20 years ago and then seeing this clip injected into several Sonic YTPs

Then forgot about Mission Hill for another 15 years. Thanks for the reminder!

Will never not think of this clip whenever someone mentions expansion packs.

Always felt kinda bad for Bill Oakleigh & Josh Weinstein that they left as showrunners for golden-age Simpsons to make this show and then WB decided they didn’t actually want this kind of show after all and put it out to die.

I always had fond memories of this show, HOWEVER, I actually rewatched it recently and I regret it because it was maybe not as interesting as I remember. A lot of scenes that maybe go on for too long, and a lot of the same kind of jokes. I’d still have watched a season 2, though. I’m still waiting for some die-hard fan to fully animate the animatics on the DVD.

Speaking of the DVD, the boxset is very nicely designed.

I was pretty fond of this show back in the day

truly a bummer it was cancelled so soon, I feel like later seasons could have allowed the show to flourish

great cast of characters, I really liked the marxist neighbors and the gay couple

I remember watching this late at night on Teletoon, our Canadian equivalent to Cartoon Network. I picked up the DVD of it a few months ago but haven’t watched it yet.

wally and gus!! the real pioneers

truly unfortunate though. mission hill did indeed have a great cast of characters and they all were so unique, really made the show feel alive

Dude thats awesome! I was thinking about getting it on DVD as well, just for the sake of it. I love collecting physical media and that would be a really awesome addition :bbcool:

Honestly that’s fair. i do find some of the jokes rather…eh…but i cant be upset about it, the characters make up for it, i think they’re all so unique.

I’m also waiting for that too happen, I’d be so happy to see something come out!! There was this one person who mentioned releasing their own rendition of the cast in the future, though its been 4 years and no updates. Check it out here

and i agree!! its very simple, which i think makes it stand out more.

Especially when one of them turns out to be some sort of Tor Johnson analog.

The nerd kid is the worst part of the show, and I wonder how it would have aged if it had to keep him as a perpetual foil to his brother and roommates.

A few years back, Bill and Josh were trying to get a Wally and Gus-focused spinoff/reboot going, and I dunno if it would have been great, but I’d have liked to see what they were thinking

This was replaying constantly on Adult Swim in the early 2000s when I watched AS religiously. So I actually have some of the episodes/scenes kinda down by heart despite not really seeing it between 2004 and 2021.

I watched it again about 4 years ago and was delighted to see I still thought it was pretty great. It feels very much “of its era,” but in a good way, so I’m glad to see it can still appeal to new viewers.

A real shame it didn’t get at least a few years to grow, truly. Pity that primetime animation all either gets cancelled before its first season fully airs or runs for at least 25 years.

this is Critic erasure

a beautiful few seasons of two different networks not knowing that the hell to do with it

now, for an essay about how Fish Police was wronged:

I guess I’m also ignoring my personal favorite show, Home Movies, which got resurrected by Adult Swim for 3 seasons after getting kicked off UPN.

I don’t think most of the shows on UPN got kicked off, I think they just had the misfortune of being on UPN

often true, but Home Movies did get cancelled before they even aired half their ordered season

damn, can’t believe Home Movies lasted only 0.5 Homeboys in Outer Space’s or Gary & Mike’s
