Elden Ring (Part 1)

level 52 and getting my butt kicked by the lion man and the big angel knight.

but i finally tried summoning some helpers tonight and managed to get a few successful connections, so that was fun. some people died immediately, but one player and i got really close. shout out to “Jeff”

anyway, that knight sure takes a lot of hits and has a lot of moves and phases, huh?

wow there has got to be another way to cross that rank river other than trudging it, right? being vague here.

craft scarlet rot cures

i think this boss only spawns if you haven’t triggered the festival, so beforehand you can meet alexander or blaidd and come to redmane castle at night

the enemy camp nearby-ish the belfries has a spell in a chest with very low faith requirements that lets you cure poison or rot by self-immolating

Okay, let’s clear up this bit from the opening cutscene.

When did it become a crime to eat some dung?

i found my homeward bone

it lasts pretty long too. it says “briefly”, and by that it means that the duration is a few minutes. more than enough to save runes from a boss room or suicide to fast travel back

I found a knight boss. I dodged, I circled around, I hit him in the back. A+.

I heard today if you use the menu to quit the game in a boss room, then you’ll respawn outside the fog gate.

I never figured out what to do with the walking mausoleums. a note I bought said something about cleaning up their feet, or around their feet. what does that mean

The one nearest that note in south Limgrave I hit the white spots on the feet textures, making them disappear one at a time, and when a majority of them were gone the mausoleum sat down and I could enter it. I never saw those on the other ones though, so I assume there’s a slightly different puzzle for each

I think it’s the same for all of them. It has been for each of the three or four I’ve downed (helping them to sit is a nicer fantasy than the Shadow of the Colossus one I was thinking with).

Yeah they’re just on different parts or you can jump on some of them

I must have missed this revelation up thread but Pope John Paul II is alive and ̶s̶h̶e̶l̶l̶ well in this game. Amazing.

Killed two more lords and thier runes are mine. I keep getting distracted though and just use the first great rune I unlocked because it just makes you all around tougher and that little boost is generally all I need to get over whatever hump is making me freak out.. What are your favorite great runes? What contexts do you use them in?

Also re: my accomplishments this evening, the fight against snake freak in the volcano is a hoot. I love the big dumb laser spears. I love how everyone is queuing to roll laser spear trios. I love it when the host doesn’t know what to do because they never grabbed the spear or didn’t look at it closely and summons two ripped buds who can laser spear. The impacts and reacts from the laser spear on the boss feel really good and sound amazing and it’s so fucking entertaining to have three synced up laser spear heroes wrecking that guy from all angles, particularly in the second phase, which I frankly found easier and sillier than the first.

That said it is beginning to occur to me that so many big important fights in this game are gimmick fights in some way. Morgott was the last Great Rune Haver I’ve fought since Godrick who was not in some way a gimmick fight. Radhan aside, the gimmicks are fun (still love those silly slug scholars in the library) but I am kind of missing the sweaty souls freak sore hands triumph feelings for the big bosses. It’s not much like some of the big memories I have of struggling to wreck bosses in earlier souls games. Instead I’m spending time learning (two out of three times, good) gimmicks.
