Elden Ring (Part 1)

I beat the boss in the capital tonight and went back to the round table and now everyone is less formal and a lot more honest about what they really think

I have had more fun summoning and feeling the camaraderie of trivializing a boss than actually learning anything about them. It’s been so nice having the option of just hitting the “I get it” button and moving on. I’ve never felt more enriched by learning a pattern in great detail than just, like…not doing that. And it’s great when people named like “Peebly Jeebly” and “ClownB***tch” just drop in from another world and throw spells at some idiot until he fucking dies.

I don’t know anything about the plot of this game yet, I’m deeply confused. But I’m having a great time.

Did anyone else find the attribute increasing talisman in Fort Faroth? It seems unbelievably good.
Its to the point where Im not sure theres actually a real downside? It seems to only slightly increase damage taken while raising your vigor, endurance, dex, and strength, all by 5. At least for how much vigor I currently have, the extra damage taken seems to be completely negated by the increased vigor. I feel like Im cheating by using it lol

i genuinely do not understand how to summon or invade in this game. i guess my complaint is that you get so many doohickeys and the descriptions of what they all do are all somewhat cryptic.

anyone willing to give me an easy rundown of it?

currently level 46 and about 28 hours into the game. i’ve defeated Margit, Rennala, and Godrick, as well as a bunch of the evergaol bosses and minibosses that crop up in dungeons and mines. i really have no clue how far in this makes me, but it feels like i still have a ways to go.

doing all of it solo has been fine, but i have a feeling that summoning might become more relevant to me as the game goes on.

yeah i found it but was reluctant to use it because of the damage increase. but seems like it’s not actually a huge increase? i probably should have just tested it out.

also, i’m happy to finally have the ability to upgrade my ghost pals, but uh…where the heck do i find the particular flowers?

The flowers are pickups in the dungeons.

yeah, but any particular place? like i found tons of flowers that were all called “grave _______” but not the particular “grave _____” i needed. is it just like, a random/harder to get drop?

There are two roles you can play in co-op: the host and the uh, summoned? not sure the terminology. Hosts get to make progress if the boss is defeated, but summoned people cannot lose their souls and get rewards for helping to defeat bosses.

Anyway, if you want to be the host and summon someone, you have to use a “Furlcalling Finger Remedy”. It looks like evil carmex:

You can make them from flowers you find all over the overworld in the Item Crafting menu. You can find the item itself in the Multiplayer menu.

This will let you see the gold signs on the ground that people leave behind. If you activate one, you will summon someone. You can summon one other person as well - you don’t need to use another item to do so.

Usually people leave their signs right by the boss door. Summoned people have half of their flasks, and enemies have extra health but generally even just the splitting of attention is worth it imo

When you summon someone you can get invaded - just FYI. It’s only happened to me once.

Invading uses the, uh, evil looking finger and frankly I have not messed around with it. You can find red signs on the ground once you use the evil carmex and get invaded solo though, if you want.

And if you just wanna practice a boss, leave your gold sign on the ground using the Tarnished’s Furled Finger from the multiplayer menu and someone will likely summon you within about 5 seconds.

I don’t know how the summoning pools work btw. Also if you put a multiplayer password on and someone else has the same password, you will only see that person’s summon signs, so that’s how you connect with your friends. Also also you can summon a friend, remove the password, then summon a rando.

I had a hard time finding Grave Glovewort 2s. Tbh, I feel your sentiment that there’s “too much stuff”. I wish there was a way to look at your most recently picked up items so you can… look at them? I find myself picking stuff up, running away, and five seconds later I already forgot what I picked up and will never really know what it was.

Oh also also also if you use the evil carmex but then don’t summon anyone, it doesn’t actually get used up. You’ll get it back the next time you rest. So don’t feel like you’re wasting resources just by using one to see if there are gold signs around

The not-crucifixes that you can “enable” also represent a common place for summoning. You can send your summon sign directly to those places with the golden not-crucifix-that’s-in-your-inventory. I don’t know how how to select which ones of those you want to send your sign to or if it just sends it to all of them, but, yeah… if you wanna be summoned use the golden not-crucifix and you’ll be summoned by people using their evil carmex at those places.

I found some in the catacomes at the top right of the southern continent if that helps

Also I could either be totally wrong about this, or its something everyone already knows about the catacomes but those hunched over statues with blue torches (often found on a precipice) point to a nearby catacome entrance on your map after activating them. When the boss is beaten it seems to put out the torch

Also on the topic of summoning, does anyone know how to use the taunters tongue? Is it just on by default or do you need to go to a specific place to activate it?

i use the fp regen on crit, lower fp costs and the turtle talismans

very good with moonveil, the special frequently staggers so you crit and get 100% of the fp cost back

mimic tear summon is so good, every so often i will die on a boss and watch my mate fight on until the load

Just realized I have the Longtail Cat Talisman, which “Renders the wearer immune to fall damage.”

If you use the item to add your summon sign to the summon pool, you can get called to fight any boss at any of those crucifix-y statues that you’ve been to but haven’t beaten in your own game yet.

So having run past the Tree Sentinel or whatever that first giant knight is in my game, even if I use the summon pool item outside of Margit’s room, about half the time I end up appearing back near the start to fight the mounted guy when I get summoned.
