I still have no clue why sometimes you need to use a potion to revive Torrent and sometimes you don’t.

also this game just reveals to me that if you sit me down in front of a cake intended for 30 people i will eat half of it and then get mad at whoever left me alone with a cake for that long

The difference, as far as I can tell, is sometimes Torrent dies, and sometimes you simply get dismounted. But the animation is identical.
For the mounted enemies I’ve noticed I can dismount them OR kill their horse, and again the animation is identical. But since their horses aren’t also ghosts, the horses run away instead of disappearing, so I can tell whether I’ve killed the horse or merely dismounted the rider. I’m assuming the same is true for me.

i think sometimes if you get whacked big enough you get knocked off and torrent disappears but isn’t actually dead. this was causing some confusion for me at first anyway

I sometimes find myself doing a gesture when I use a pouch item and ended up settling for just using triangle+up for torrent
What do you use these for? I didn’t understand their utility
“Can I survive this fall” I assume. If it’s like previous Souls games, they make a different noise depending on if it’s a deadly fall or not
(I knew this but still didn’t use a single one for the entire game. What’s the worst that can happen?)

Rainbow stones are my most used item in Souls games, I check the heights all the time. They’re also occasionally useful for marking spots you’ve already been in a dungeon, or of course, multiplayer shenanigans

Protect her!
I know no one’s story in From Software games ever has a positive outcome, but did I pick the right path in making her forget everything? She’s now all alone in the manor. Her posture in human form is one of my favorite things in the game.
When it came time to choose a side in Sellen’s story, I helped her because I’d barely talked to the witch hunter and she seemed to have big plans that probably couldn’t make the world any worse, even though I knew that I’d get a more useful reward by helping the witch hunter. But things sure turned out badly for her. So much for those plans.
I’ve reached the final boss and the other final boss in the Haligtree, but haven’t yet beaten either. Maybe I will succeed in one or both encounters this weekend.
The only UI thing I have to complain about isn’t unique to Elden Ring. In any game that does something when you press in a joystick, I do that thing all the time. Especially at the worst possible time.
I like it when I have to open the menu in the middle of a fight to cure rot or something. I deserve the hassle for not planning better. I also like it when I’m locked on to something (intentionally or not) and the camera swings wildly as I try to escape a situation. It’s quite annoying in the moment but funny to think about later.

you can not give her the potion and not kill her either and she ends up deciding to go on a journey of self discovery or something and leaves you a letter.
I iced sellen cause she was trying to depose ranni’s mom. then I killed the witch hunter after anyway and felt bad about it but I really wanted his helmet.

If you don’t give her the potion or kill her she leaves behind a note saying she’s going on a journey to carry on her mother’s work and thanks you for being so kind to her.
There’s an outcome for Boc the monkey that is also unexpectedly sweet
