I didn’t watch any trailers and now I wish I had
I spent like 15 minutes cheapshotting a miniboss crucible knight in the underground area you can access from the 4 belfries. I tried sucker hitting them by getting them stuck under the broken pillar you fall down to reach that bottom area, but I’d still die. So instead, I stood on area right in front of the broken pillar and just shot them with arrows and bolts until they died.
Ducking in a bush while also being that far away made the Crucible Knight not really know where I was, so it didn’t come running after me. The only problem was that it blocked everything, and I only did about 1-4 damage. But then I realized if I shoot the ground around them, they’d get confused and look towards where I shot and lower their guard, and then I could hit them for full damage. Repeat x50 or something and got 'em
In the end, it was a pointless exercise though because they dropped nothing but 3k souls and I spent way more on bolts and arrows lol
it was actually seeing something so silly that convinced me this game was worth buying day one haha
this game’s been doing so much rehabilitating of dark souls 2 (some of the interiors and lighting in Leyndell have weirdly even been giving me positive memories of Drangleic Castle?) i guess they had to throw in the crucible knight just to remind you what you hated as well
There’s plenty of that going around for DS2. Aesthetically stuff like a lava castle, underground watery area with beautiful blue florescent light, a very high temple of dragons with them flying around (well this one is in ruins). But technically ad well like dual wielding, one hit kill carriages, poison where the more you drench yourself it it the longer it takes the buildup to stop even when you are at a safe zone, enemies that don’t stop attacking that I finally see how they do work after shifting my frame of mind to a more Sekiro and a less Dark Souls/Bloodborne mentality (those didn’t worked in DS2… definitely did not).
And that’s not even going to the smaller details that everyone that is not me seems to appreciate so much. The best of it is they made that wild period of experimentation that was DS2 actually work. They gave you the tools for it without having to constantly carry a greatshield with no armor, or being the absolute dodge timing master.
I keep thinking I’m at the end of the game and then keep unspoilering text that relates to things that seem completely beyond anything I’ve yet seen. how big is this dang game??
this is what Godefroy should have been
It’s always funny to me when going to an area on the “main path” and I’m laughably stronger than everything there, but then I dip into a random cave and I face death from like two imps with a stick
So has there been any news about what the new patch does?
Fixed bugs with questlines, specifically Nepheli, and others. Didn’t fixed sometimes not getting Vyke’s invasion, which blocks a questline midway (just got that one).
Did fix being able to go down behind the Bestial Sanctum to get a couple of items I wasn’t able to before. Hopefully fixed getting invisible enemies every once in a while (like soldiers and stuff, not the actual enemies that are invisible).
And general performance improvements on framerates and crashes. Supposedly they fixed the stutter problems… Dunno cause I’m playing in PS4.
As to nerfs the only one I’ve noticed was Barricade Shield. It’s kinda making my gameplay more Sekiro, having to think when can I activate it mid enemy combo, or forced to activate it much closer to hits.
People who didn’t used it aren’t going to have much motivation to do it now, but I think it actually makes the gameplay pretty awesome.
I just wanna say that sleep is a heck of a status effect and you should use it if only for the custom sleepy monster animations and snoring.
Also it cracks some big’ns wide f’n open
You get a special torch in the end-game snow zone that lets you blow purple sleep smoke in bad guys’ faces.
there is also a purple smoke’n sword in the southwestern edge of Caelid
oh damn
purp build

I’ve skimmed this thread while running two saves (one a Siegmeyer Cosplay with Fat Armor & Pumpkin Helm and another exclusively for co-opping with a Souls virgin who, despite bouncing off of DS3 & Bloodborne while accepting their qualities, has now declared Elden Ring the From Gateway Drug of Choice) and am frequently exhausted by how much I love it a month from Day One
I can applaud the creativity in approach on display by all participants here because dual-wielding The Sword of Many Swords and a Zweihander with the Claw talisman is usually enough to bring the wreckage, and after 120 hours I feel no need to make my bread & butter any fancier
That is all!
i decided to stop leveling so i had 1.5 mil souls and then i lost them falling off the haligtree.
this is freedom, this is liberty.
First boss in NG+ where I used Ashes, the Crucible Knight duo at Auriza Hero’s Grave.
Those are just plain bullshit.
This is the truest review so far, all my criticisms boil down to this.
I played the game for about 3 hours yesterday after a week or so break and now all I want to do is play Elden Ring again, but when I play too much Elden Ring I get nauseated and frustrated and slightly ashamed. It’s just too much, it can’t be my whole diet. It’s a sometimes treat. But it’s really hard to put down.
It’s fascinating though, I don’t feel like this falls to the same low tricks that many modern open world games do of basically instilling a habit and making it easy to do “just one more thing.” This is a game that really wants to entertain, challenge, amuse, and frustrate you. It’s not an addictive object on purpose. It’s just…
…too much cake.
I became Lord.
The final 5-6 boss rush I just spammed L2 on Mohg’s greatsword because the game sure did not want me close to any enemy.
