Elden Ring 2

Its interesting that I’m at 90 hours (which WHOA on its own) but Im also only like level 73 where as other people seem to be at least 10 levels up on me and a few bosses ahead by now. Thats an absurd number of runes.

I’m like 54 hours and level 100, basically at the start of farum azula and the haligtree simultaneously

I just hit lvl 150 and I still level up multiple times every session. The dynamic weather system implemented in the Lands Between seems perpetually set to make it rain.

Although I might stop there, seems good enough for whats left.

the radahn nerf is pretty big, i was able to tank the gravity orbs that were oneshotting me previously and come out with like half health left (they also seem way easier to dodge, you can just dash on the horse and they whiff). he’s not nearly as quick at taking out the summons now either

still felt extremely good to get him down

1046 hours and 219 bosses in and I only just now found the lance. I can finally recreate my childhood visit to Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament in Buena Park, CA.

Lightning bolts were good in Dark 2, or at least that’s how I killed so many dragons. Some of the weirder incants in this game are a little overpowered. I mentioned it up thread but the arcane incant Swarm of Flies can stun lock and repeatedly bleed tough bosses.

Also, the variety of magic in this game is great, but it’s a little harder now to intuit what the different stats and catalysts will ultimately do for you. I know why I need strength for a great shield and dexterity for a flail, but only Miyazaki knows why a smart man shoots magma while a devoted man spits it.

I swear I’ve spent more time dropping summon signs than actually progressing in the plot, and it’s traumatic to see all these people rejecting Patches’ surrender over and over.

Last night I managed to take out both an invader and the tree sentinel during a summon. It’s nice to be nice.

Does Patches drop a Bell Bearing if he dies?

Ball Bearing? Bell Bearing?

Also how does co-op stat rebalancing work? Whenever I play with my low-level friend, my stats become so garbage that I die in a few hits and it throws me off. Doesn’t seem to be a problem when I get summoned randomly though.

I think so—isn’t that the check and balance for missing him opening his shop? The husk twins at round table hall take whatever that is and sell the stuff he would have?

Margit’s Shackles is the one wiki thing I’ve looked up since I wasn’t sure why it sometimes worked and sometimes didn’t (it works on him twice but only in the first half of his health). So I spotted something about that in there.

Yep, I totally missed Patches and picked up a ball bearing where he would have been

Every merchant in the game drops a bell bearing. I assume the original motivation was to avoid the Stockpile Thomas problem, but the devs seem to have realized this also inevitably leads to an Efficiency Gamer Strat to systematically murder every merchant you see to get more convenient access to their inventory later.

One of my friends has been doing this, and after he mentioned it, I tried killing a few merchants to see how it plays out. It mostly makes you feel like a ruthless monster, with little touches like their donkeys fighting alongside them, and then wandering away in sad confusion after their owner died. But the “prisoner” merchants far away from bonfires fight back much harder than the other kinds, and their abilities and death dialogue imply they were imprisoned for a good reason, so there is also the potential for a compromise conduct where you only kill those.

you could be me: i forgave patches, lost track of him for 60 hours, then reached volcano manor which made him vanish from my game completely, ball bearing included

I have not attacked any merchants. I couldn’t even bring myself to kill Kenneth after hearing somewhere that he drops a golden seed. But I stood next to him a couple times, considering it.

Does the traditional move of killing everyone before the last boss still work or have they all died by that point?

Just made it to the Plateau. I assume I went the back way based on what is up the hill from the first grace?

Grappled with the landscape riddle of how to access the forebodingly alluring Shaded Castle for at least an hour heh, clearing a few tunnels and tunnel freaks in the process which was fun and once I got there, really nice flow to that dungeon, perfect little snack, the way the architecture wraps round the poisoned earth and you get that sun-roof scene of the overworld looming overhead, I like sludgy trudging against hordes of semi-stupid but still tricky enemies only to die or nearly die from a god damn swamp slug from behind before you can breathe a sigh of relief from clearing the bipedal hordes, that’s the Souls stuff. Neat statues with the red ivy that looks likes bloody wounds. Nice boss, not too hard to solo, just right, wearing some of that Briar gear now.

i’m stuck at the beginning of ranni’s quest.

Summary

so every guide i consult says to speak with Blaidd but Blaidd doesn’t appear anywhere for me. i was able to leave ranni’s rise without speaking to him and now i don’t really get what to do next.

the pompous guy told me he had a tower nearby? i feel like if i weren’t using a guide. my normal inclination would be to find that instead

any suggestions?

I think what this might be is that talking with Blaidd unblocks the Radahn Festival, and killing Radahn is necessary to progress in Ranni’s quest. If you already have access to the festival or you’ve already killed Radahn, I don’t think you need to talk to Blaidd any further.

i spoke to blaidd at that point, but didn’t do what he said. i later met him at the festival, and he mentioned that i hadn’t met up with him, but it didn’t lock me out of ranni’s quest at all.

Same for me. Blaidd probably died permanently somewhere.

is he hanging out with Seluvis or the giant blacksmith at that point? I think talking to Ranni for the first time unlocks Seluvis’ tower, right?

but I agree I don’t think it matters, it just might make finding Nokron after Radahn less intuitive
