Oh I haven’t even bothered with the sequel. This is honestly pretty off topic, I just wanted to share my unified theory of Ridley Scott since it came up.

Kyrandia 2 – following the Ridley Scott analogy, it could be a kind of “Legend, but nutty” which I guess is just Holy Grail, I realize as I’m typing, forget it

But the world will miss out on Erin Gibson’s breakout role as Zanthia

honestly, there already is a pretty good - OK, imho, but let’s concede that it is pretty entertaining - take on our future out there, and it is called Mad Max Furry Road (or something pretty close, title-wise).
OK, half j/k reply, you got me. I had to try at least!

the real reply is - that’s why we have Black Mirror.
And that’s why BR2049 works well for me, tbh: it does show a bleak future that does, from our perspective, evoke some kind of vintage-feeling, instead of extrapolating what will/may future have in store for us.

what a contemporary sci fi movie should do then - just look around you how things have changed over the last month, or factor in more extreme weather occurences/climate change, the inevitably following social unrest/fight for remaiming resources like access to food and water, and instead of having a fun evening at the cinema, we get into outright fear territory… and i think that Black Mirror already has a few episodes that do hit too close to home anyway.

So hot take (pun unintentional) in short, a sci fi movie nowadays kinda automatically becomes a disaster movie?

Oh just remembered this, I’m sure someone will hate it

They made this movie and it’s excellent (and definitely better than Blade Runner 2), it’s called Dredd

Yeah Dredd owns

Its still an adaptation of 80s shit though

I watched Prisoners last night and I think Denis V. makes David Fincher movies all the way to the last 20 minutes where things get uncharacteristically sentimental.

Today was originally scheduled as Record Store Day and one of the releases was supposed to be a reissue of the 1984 soundtrack. The weird combination of Eno fans and Toto fans out there should keep an eye out for whenever this gets rescheduled (hopefully not Black Friday).

ok so

it really looks like they took some off-the-shelf Hard Knuckle Tactical Gloves

left two intact

ripped the knucks off two others

sewed those into wrist bands?

so knuckles onto knuckles but then knuckles onto wrists to hint at armor like still suits need gauntlets to complete the Motocross Condom Operator look I

I wonder how many of these choices are driven by budget but also just how deep up my own butt I’m going to get re: the semiotics of DUNE PARTS 1 & 2 VOLUMETRIC FLOW
