I got deep into the world of Klax covers after posting about the game in another thread

Each one has a different vision of how to interpret this abstract, Tetris-like game

managing to communicate how much I loved Doubutsu Banchou across a table and a language barrier to the same-age director of Tokyo Jungle was a high point in my life

the tokyo jungle director was just some guy with no game design background, right?

I think Crispy’s is a tiny company he & folks started after college. No peeps since 2015 so they may just be part of Sony now.

oh, i thought the whole thing was part of some initiative by sony to get more original games by hiring “outsiders” as directors

I think that’s right, they were published by Sony. I’m sure they pitched to them and Sony helped them stand up and then handled the marketing.

the tokyo jungle producer also produced bloodborne and deracine so that checks out

having screenshots on the box for “honesty” purposes often ends up being dumb in practice because marketers inevitably line them up at comic book-style ACTION ANGLES that you’ll never realistically use in game. if people cared about communicating the actual gameverbs on the cover that would rule! unfortunately a lot of designers don’t even care to communicate them readably within the game itself
