Do I play Steins;Gate?

Well now I am glad I cut my haitus short. The most important metric is how much anime radiation poisoning you can take. Because there is a lot. But now years removed, it is almost quaint to be immersed in 2009 Akihabara and Japanese Nerd Culture.
It is filled with very stupid stuff and very real human emotions.

I actually think it was @iguferon ā€˜s playthrough that made me click (GIANT THEMATIC SPOILERS BUT IT IS ON MY MIND) The time travel and alternate timelines are just playing out the what-if’s of grief and regret.

It is like 30 hours long so that’s a lot of anime poisoning. And then you can play Zero which I think is amazing just about the whole way through.

It is a giant stupid adventure game and as I say, Adventure games are the worst way to read an anime. If you’ve got a guide open for the last 3rd (and you will have to do that.)

You know the answer whether you want to play Steins;Gate or not. I only played it out of semi-spite because a now-disgraced podcaster kept calling it ā€œGod-Tierā€. And I ended up liking it, and then obnoxiously talking about it all, as a joke, and then really really loving the sequel which does not make any sense if you don’t play Steins;Gate and now it will be part of my life, forever. El Psy Kongaroo, Drink Dr Pepper.

To be clear I have been buying 92 yen Dr Pepper from the fourth floor of the Akiba Don Quioxte since 2006. I was right there with 5pb employees as they were making Steins;Gate, statisticly.

Not sure why it is easy to get. I’ve met like two people in 20 years that said they liked it. They definitely had mini-fridges at checkouts across Akiba with DP after S;G released.

And yes of course I went and had the special Steins;Gate Dr Pepper. Dublin Texas forever.

steins;gate is goated even if you arent an anime fan who needs to be taught empathy. some serious fucking emotionalism in that game. you will care about these mfs even if you never thought it possible, even during the inane otaku detours

I’d prefer to play it on Switch, but I only see the ā€œEliteā€ version available. Am I right to assume that’s a terrible version of the game?

idk if I would say its terrible the original art style is cooler and has some subplot shit that isnt in elite but for the most part i thought elite was fine it hits all the emotional points well and the presentation is nice… it uses footage from the anime and while there were a few times where the animations felt repetitive for the most part its pretty good. perhaps the true experience will always be crying onto the vita screen but i think having any handheld to grip while you sob at the ending is important

Thank you this is exactly what I needed to read.

i cannot recommend the steins;gate followup movie if only because even though it made me cry four times the last 7 minutes ruin the entire enterprise retroactively because someone gets in a time machine to french kiss a child

I promise the game is only a little problematic instead of wildly!!!

Elite is about 5 hours shorter than the original. I have some kind of review of it somewhere.

I agree. Look everyone it is complicated we are actually on the same side for once on this.

I think both of the Steins;Gates are markedly too long, but I feel that way about just about every large scale VN I’ve played so YMMV.
