Yeah, I mentioned “the current free giveaway on the Epic store” but didn’t link to it–or any of the store pages, for that matter; just the change list articles I noticed on the stores I’m familiar with–because I have some sort of unexamined hang-up about using the Epic store.
(Probably mainly an ancient train of spiteful thought association starting from MS bloatware OS, through X-bro gun culture, to Gears of War.)
Bleh basically I was more interested in the news that Wood had done some LOVE updating, and I initially posted it in the News thread, but then I thought oh no I’ve spammed the News thread with sale stuff that should go in the Sale thread and the way I’ve ended up writing it it’s not quite right for either. What with my dumb store hang-up I should’a stuck to the features update part and left it in the News thread.
Just felt like adding it explicitly, because this thread is all about being a cheapskate.
Though for anyone REALLY looking to support LOVE, I’d say buy it on itch AND ping the free epic copy, as if my understanding is right the dev should get a small payout based on volume of downloads. at least it shows more support with 0 dollar cost, but giving up your deets to CHINA.
i hope this is the case. i haven’t confirmed whether it is or not, but operating under the assumption that it benefits the developer in some way for the downloads to be higher, i’ve been claiming every free epic game I can remember to—especially for games by smaller teams—no matter how uninteresting or terrible it looks to me. spread some of that fuckin’ fortnite money around.
EDIT: after digging around a bit it looks like, no, they dont’ get paid extra for more claimed games, so i don’t know that it realistically can be expected to help in any material way once that flat rate has already been decided on for the developer but uh free games for me i guess
Getting more people aware of the dev and their games will usually get them a bit more of an audience, at least, which in these days of Patreon and so forth CAN be quite materially useful. : )
(Selfishly speaking, I was delighted by the news because after getting LOVE 3 in the Steam Winter Sale, and it having all of the revisions of all the levels from all the previous games, I really want more LOVE and was afraid Wood had moved on entirely to Deltarune and that other cuter precision platformer he’s been tinkering with.)
This is a great bundle but I picked up Patrick’s Parabox in the last big Steam winter sale for $15 as I had a gift card and am now filled with regret as I more or less just set that gift card on fire.
Will probably still pick it up for Taiji and Superliminal as I know a few puzzle folks who speak very highly of the former, the latter is likely flawed but if I had a copy I’d play through it and get enough enjoyment as that’s how most I get along with most first person puzzlers.
Okay now I am tempted. They also updated the game to make it a bit more balanced, it sounds like? Plus the whole new addition of an easy difficulty. I’m not ashamed to admit I played thru Ninja Gaiden Black on Ninja Dog difficulty!!!
the game always had easy, but much like ninja gaiden it is not accessible until u die a couple times, at which point it is offered to u in exchange for a pair of cat ears which u must wear for the rest of the game lmao.
Nikita Kryukov, creator of the Milk Inside/Outside a Bag of Milk games, made all their games free on itch for a short period of time to celebrate their birthday, feel free to grab 'em by Wednesday if you want.
The newest Humble Bundle for Games Done Quick has some interesting games in there for $10, Pseudoregalia, Hylics 2 and Dicey Dungeons being the personal standouts.
I went “oh hey that Hylics game looks amazing” to “oh no it’s a jrpg with random battles” so fast, but that’ll hopefully not be an issue for everyone.
