Digging Through The Texture Files in Jet Set Radio

This game has really good textures

I really like looking at the textures for the signs since I always just zoom by them during gameplay

These are from Grind Square:

Here is Bantam Street, I think the difference sized ones show up depending on how far away you are from the polygon

EDIT: Oh that’s just an export setting on this tool. Thats what mip-mapping is huh

In b4 someone says “this is very aesthetic”

But seriously, the texturework here is pretty damn good. I had no sense of how low the resolution was in this. Some of these seem drawn almost per-pixel.

has american2004 seen this it looks rite up his alley

Someone’s going to do something bad with that cuck sign.

loving that SB entertainment logo.

Hello. I am a member of the Jet Set Radio speedrunning community, and an all around Jet Set Radio lover. I know this is quite an old post, but if you can please message me on like twitter or any social media that would be great. I am really interested in how you got these textures.

Only if we can hear that mixtape tho

i used the steam version

in the game files, in the data/jetradio folder there are a bunch of .afs files

i used a program called AFS Explorer to extract the .bin files inside them

some of these .bin files contain pvm/pvr textures

i used a program called PVR Viewer to extract them

in pvr viewer, you want to search for the filetype “all files” in the folder where you extracted your .bins

you should see a list of the bins

if you want to look at the individual textures right-click on a .bin and choose “scan for pvr files” that should show you individual textures which you can also save from the file menu as a jpeg or png

that’s it i think
