This reminds me: With the way Metroid 2 is programmed, it should be relatively trivial to make a hack where all enemies stay perpetually dead, and not just the metroids.
Metroid 2 is in the level between I should draw a map and not easy to forget. So I’m not draw a map so far, but sometimes I think I should when I die in the middle of progress of next save point.
I remember the field of vision being so constrained that it made the world feel claustrophobic and disorienting. I made my way through touch instead of sight.
That makes me rethink how game type reshapes me, I guess tactical wargame change my play style in last few years. I play action game more and more like a turn-based game. Now I seem like to stop carefully before move in many scenes which never seen, pretend there’s an impulse phase in game. I used to play action games like a fake speedrun player, never stop even I got attacked.
you must have played it less than a month ago is a good rule.
Thank you! By your posts, you are proving that I was right to make it.
I’m a little stuck in Metroid 2, so I try another game on list. I play metal black in voice muted but when the 1st boss beaten, that animation is

youre gonna need a bigger version of that gif for the second level reveal
METAL BLACK IS SO GOOD
I run back to the ship, and for drawing the map I walkthrough the old way again. Yes I’m very suspect the ancient civilization defense cannon (パプー, or Wallfire in English version) but cannot find a way. I back to the manual, it has the early stage of map and even have some hints on it, I wish I notice it before I drawn the map
.
After I realize there’s a big building behind it’s not hard to found the way
. How did you find it at 1991? Manual? Helped by a friend? Nintendo Power? Or figure it out in a second without a doubt?
I was 9 and banged my head against it until it gave way
Yes, I vote Metal Black until now.
Before I play Conquests of the Longbow, plan it next month or later.
Here’s an EGG Console release that’s pretty neat: Compile’s Puyo Puyo for the MSX2. Even though it’s missing the focus on multiplayer, I still prefer it to most versions of Tetris. That’s why I’m voting for it and adding it to the list.
I had never played this original version before. I had always thought that Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine was supposed to be the same. It turns out that that version is a SEGA-boosted arcade edition, hybridized with the Street Fighter II craze. This MSX version doesn’t have a story mode and single player just has you playing in your own personal well.
There’s a mission mode where you have to complete challenges like “destroy all green” or “chain 3”. It’s not quite the same as the puzzle mode in later games, but it’s probably the most fun way to play in this edition.
I got my wife to play against me in the 2-player mode “for research” and she hated it. I would chain 3 and it just ruined everything. There’s something about the speed scaling in this iteration that’s a bit confusing. Instead of being a steady ramp up, it seesaws between a jog and a sprint. Anyways, good game. I’m glad they kept making them.
I’m thinking about one thing last night: a 1991 PC game should be run on a Dr-DOS 5.0 or MS-DOS 3.3.
Maybe you already known but I just found out. I’m trying 1cc Metal Black, the best shooting rhythm is to press button every 1.5 or 2.5 seconds, possibly around 1.75 seconds a time, the shooting frequency is the highest, rather than repeating clicking like other shooting games.
omg i wish we got to fight a giant cow that squirted its milk at you
Recommending Wing Commander II.
It was a huge improvement over the original.
Better framerate. Very colorful. Engaging story.
- The boss will gather the power like you, so you can’t left pow up on the screen
- When the boss use special laser attack, if you did the same. The laser would be split everywhere then turn to be a big ball, only the stronger fire level one won
- The special laser attack can be use the bomb button to switch the split mode or laser mode
there will always be enough newalone (pow on the screen) for the boss to laser you because those laser battles are like the main feature of the game after the music and narrative and bonus stages
