Densha de Go!

I don’t know tbh but I’m assuming I have the newest version since I just got it new and everything, no slowdown or issues really so far.

it aint super cheap for it being one game (albeit a game with a good amount of lines?); i got mine for 170 on playasia plus shipping.

Yikes that’s a lot. I got my type 2 ps2 controller for about that much a few years ago, so maybe if anyone’s considering getting the plug n play, see if there’s any of those available somewhere. Then you’d have more games to play with it, which u can just pirate onto a hacked ps2 ig

(Ok i just checked ebay and the only type 2 controller on there right now is 900 dollars jesus. I really don’t think there is a true market price for these tho so u may get lucky idk)

Whoa, just bumping because I realized the latest DDG came out on Switch as well. If anyone has a PSP or capable device they ported Final to it but cut it up into separate “Densha de Go Pocket” releases focusing on specific lines. So there’s a lot of handheld DDG fun to be had now I guess.

the japanese rail sim series on 3ds use actual live action footage for the journeys. the okinawa one (which is the only one i’ve found a .cia for) is beautiful. i wanna go to okinawa and immediately die from the heat. it has a night time mode, but to unlock it, you have to get perfect scores on every section of daytime mode :crying_cat_face:

alsi i’m a month late on this but sl de ikou on ps1 is a good beginners game, since the easy mode really is incredibly easy.

neither of these games are ddg games, but train sims pretty much all play eactly the same as far as i can tell?

Want to say without having tried one myself that the live action sims aren’t appealing to me because it’s just playing back a video that turns into a slideshow when you brake and you don’t really have the same sense of momentum. There’s a charm to staring at 3D renders of real cities passing by that is missed out on too.

was thinking about picking up a controller for one of these: any suggestions on where to start? I’m thinking either a PNP1 (did they ever get the fan-translation working on it?) or one of those new switch controllers (not sure how playable that new game is for non-japanese speakers, or if it works with the ps4 version)

Switch controller doesnt work on ps4 but there are a few other train games on switch by Sonic Powered that it is compatible with. The plug n play is probly easiest but if you can play japanese ps1 games getting the regular ps1 one is the cheapest option and that’s plenty of densha de go to play. Also has compatibility with some of the ps2 games.

As for playability without knowing Japanese, they’re all about the same. Once you memorise which menu option equals play the videogame and watch a youtube guide or two to understand the UI you’re good.
