hm ok i tried to move posts across to the other thread, thought better of it, noticed they’d gone out of order, and tried and failed to fix it. mea culpa

finished this one last night though. do you think five years is enough of a window to post spoilers unblurred?

i got to like episode 11 last year and just picked it back up and ambiguously finished it yesterday. All i wanted was to reach a point where i could just hang out and do deliveries and i think i’m there? definitely an all-time chill evening game, the level of challenge is very elastic

Oh no, I’m in episode 13 and Sam is monochrome sitting on a beach while Amelie slowly walks around him in circles reading me the game’s design document and world bible in excruciating detail, peppered with lame cod philosophy. I didn’t think this game was capable of being this boring!

Otherwise I’ve been really loving this game though. It’s going to be hard to resist going straight into the sequel after I’m done… But if the ending continues to be this dull then maybe I’ll be able to summon the strength to take a break.

Ok yeah episode 14 was pretty good. I finally finished Death Stranding! As others have said, I felt that the extended open world playtime sections were the real highlight; the plot stuff was pretty neat when it was sprinkled around, but once it starts taking up hours at a time then it wears out its welcome fast. Great game on the whole though.

I just went and picked up a physical copy of Death Stranding 2. The cashier at Best Buy was fucking jazzed to see me buying it. He just kept saying ā€œSolid game, man. Solid game.ā€ I finished paying and started walking away but even though there was a big long line of customers behind me, the guy called out to me plaintively, ā€œHave you played Silent Hill???ā€ Like he was desperate to keep the good vibes going. I gave him a thumbs up and kept moving. Should We Have Connected?

Everyone has wisely warned me that going straight into the sequel is going to be Too Much Cake, but it’s very hard to resist… I want to know what new ingredients and flavors are in the new cake!

I only have so much time with the PS5 so I’ll be going back to the original to do a replay with my skills after like 200 hours between both games. I have never played the Director’s Cut, outside of seeing how it ran on my PC. Man, I still remember the beginning…

Contrary to most, revisiting the story is what Im most excited for. I actually really like the stories in these games. The prolific codec type calls in the first one are underwhelming, I remember that much. But I think the emotional core and the mythology are very strong and I miss the soundtrack, although it’ll be hard to go back to before having a music player. I play with the ambiance for the most part anyway!

I am going to read everything this time and possibly play thru the story mode without doing any standard orders, sticking strictly to the main path for the duration of the storyline.
