Death Stranding šŸ‹

It’s just a really, really clean image. Technically it’s probably not doing anything special but damn I can’t help just stare at everything up close. The lighting, materials, objects at great distances, etc. They all just look great. The option button menu system could be higher resolution though.

if you have a pro and a 1080p tv, turn on super-sampling and it fixes that nicely.

It is impressive to watch actors selling the act of consuming branded product. True professionals.

it’s easy to hate consumer entertainment that produces sycophantic nonsense like this. someone stop me before I get carried away

In some scenes Amelie’s hair/dress doesn’t move very naturally which is a normal thing in vidcon but you’d think they would have solved it in this game when everything else does.

You can’t have photorealistic graphics if clothes don’t look right on the characters. 2/10 game sucks now.

this is so impossible that at one point nvidia or amd, I forget which, had some Advanced Hair Technology gimmick that you could turn on to make, like, lara croft and maybe one other character from one other game have hair that didn’t look like cardboard, only if you turned this feature on your frames would drop by about two thirds

Yeah that was Nvidia I think. I only played the console versions of the nu-raiders but the hair in those games was still leagues beyond hair in others games. Only Geralt’s luscious locks in Witcher 3 came close.

The last two Tomb Raiders on Xbox have physically simulated individual strands of hair and while it’s a small thing once you see it in those games you suddenly notice it’s absence in every other game. Maybe one day it will be common place.

TressFX was AMD and after Tomb Raider 2014’s extremely inefficient implementation, it should be pretty good on the last two.

the ui font is way too small
i somehow played 8 hours of this already

ive never been able to get into kojimas stuff and haven’t closely followed death stranding so it has just been a weird recurring series of memes to me. Oh here’s Guillermo del Toro and a baby in a jar. Here’s Kojima crushing on Mads Mikkelsen. Learning what it’s actually about is kind of infuriating because ā€œcourier sim with asynchronous multiplayer infrastructure craftingā€ sounds fucking incredible and i’d love to play a version of it that can shut up for two seconds

I think this is the first open world game I’ve enjoyed since like Saints Row 3? Adding weight and deliberateness to movement makes traversal actually interesting for once
I’m all in

Yeah I’m having way more fun with this game than I was expecting to.

the building and ad-hoc collaboration with other players is a way bigger thing than i expected and it’s pretty neat!

other people have saved my ass more than once.

this game literally got me to smash that like button

I mean, it actually does shut up for gigantic stretches of time you spend hiking, delivering stuff and paving roads (my new favorite hobby!).
