Oh yea, for sure. I’m just used to hearing “this is spicy” and then not being able to eat more than 5 bites in a row without having take a water break because my tongue is starting to sear. But for actual spices like cumin and paprika and shit, not just hot pepper stuff, I agree, more more more.

oddly i always add more of everything they ask except salt and cumin

i just don’t like salty food i guess. i mean occasionally its ok but if im cooking for myself i don’t really need it

cumin is fine in moderation but i find if i put in the recommended amount it is all i ever taste, i usually cut it in half

i used to love eating spicy food but i think my stomach broke somehow and now i can’t do it. i still like the taste though. sad.

FWIW, water tends to spread the capsaicin around, only slowly diluting it. Dairy actively neutralizes its properties. So, like, cheese or sour cream will go way further in helping you cope.

Yea, I’m aware, but I usually don’t drink milk with my meals. Stuff like juice, or lemonade, etc, if not just water is what I drink. Sour cream is great if it’s actually being served with the meal.

I just make sure to avoid spicy foods. If I go to a restaurant and they say “it’s a little bit spicy but not too much, it should be fine” then I know that translates to “You will take four bites and then be unable to enjoy your meal.”

My dad is Polish, and my mom is Hungarian, and growing up, she cooked for their tastes, so that became my taste.

Yeah, unless you’re Clark Kent, just up and chugging milk with dinner is a bit… uh.

But, like. As sensitive as I am, I love the taste of jalapenos, right. So, what to do? Combine them with cheese. Then they lose half to two-thirds of their heat, and I’m left with the flavor and a little prickle.

I was at a Tex-Mex place with my friend, and I ordered the burrito. They had chopped little tiny bits of jalapeno into the cheese sauce they slathered over the burrito. And that was still too much for me. I just can’t even. I have little babee tongue, I guess.

Yes. FOR REFERENCE I AM 41 YEARS OLD, and it’s only in the past few years I’ve been able to work my way up to enjoying a nice jalapeno. A decade ago I’d have been doubled over and crying.

I’ve heard so, but tbh, I don’t mind the occasional ribbing I get for having such a sensitive tongue, and it’s never really been an issue for me. I can’t afford to eat out with friends terribly often, when I do get to, I want it to be a nice and cozy time. Shrug.

Capsaicin is also alcohol soluble, so a beer helps a lot more than water, if that’s your thing

Cider, but yea, that’s good to know. Wasn’t aware of that!

i feel like i need to respond to this with some kind of precise calculation of the quantity of pork fat i consume on a weekly basis but i don’t have those figures on hand

when i first got msg i was told ‘it just makes your food taste MORE’ so i used it in a batch of brownies. dont do that.
