Lets find some real game consoles in real videogames!

Like the n64 in DKC3

Or perhaps a Sufami/SNES in Pokemon

Maybe a Genesis/Megadrive in Rent a Hero

And of course, the Saturn in Shenmue

If the sims play games on them, yes. So PCs that narratively or literally) play games, but not ones that are just in an office or something I think.

I think this is the easter egg from Red Alarm of a hidden room that contains a wireframe Virtual Boy, but this was the best image I could find of it. Somehow the internet is not awash in comprehensive playthroughs of Red Alarm.

I was gobsmacked when that Guardians of the Galaxy game had a Colecovision alongside a few cartridges (Cosmic Avenger and Space fury were legit BTW) in it.

I’m slightly surprised that this one didn’t have a Gameboy Advance plug in interface available, they loved doing this and it did some pretty neat things, I especially remember using it for Pac Man vs. where three players are ghosts that can only see a tiny portion of the maze, and the pac man player has the advance and can see the entire maze. This could have been a really neat interface to hold in person and look at maps and stuff.

since it was a launch game, the cable hadn’t come out yet, but yeah it seems like a perfect fit, especially as a tech demo

I did not realize it was a launch game! That makes a lot of sense then, while still feeling like a missed opportunity.

yeah it was a big controversy at the time: the first Nintendo console to launch without a Mario game. the general feeling about Luigi’s Mansion was that it was “just a glorified tech demo” but obviously that’s turned around. I’ve always been a defender of that game though, it’s such a cute game with a ton of personality.
