battle angel alita is the only example i can think of off the top of my head of a manga with 2000ad references in it, too

That makes me feel better about being so confused! I dug reading it as best I could.

And Ashen Victor is doing Frank Miller worship.

The three pillars of comic books: implied motion and time from the relation of nearby images, drawing details in the hard way on purpose, and “Oh, so that’s your fetish”.

I just read this two-volume set, which includes the above and several other books. All are interesting, violent, nicely-illustrated crime stories.

The books themselves are very nice, too. Large hardcovers of the quality you’d expect from Fantagraphics.

Considering picking this up, but I’m not familiar with any of the titles. There must be at least one or two good ones in a collection of that size, though, I’d think.

Really love what this did with perspective and ambiguity about the fictional frame.

Oh is that about the creator? I know nothing about this, just saw it at a store.

Damn! Huge amount of text on their wiki page under the section “Views On Women”

Just try and enjoy the lettering and the backgrounds while you can

OHHHH NO NEURON ACTIVATED TIME TO CEREBUS POST

the misogyny is also a trip into the deteriorating psyche of a person in a really personal intimate way. in the book reads he writes out his entire mental breakdown but also points out that you can rip every single page of his manifesto out, just leaving one of the coolest bloodiest fights ever intact.

also the lettering and backgrounds (backgrounds by GERHARD)

did you know Dave sim doesn’t know how to cook? he told me personally, because I fax him. because I have issues and cerebus is my favorite comic

if you donate a dollar a month to his patreon you can read him doing a page by page teardown of bone with tons of annotations because of how much he hates Jeff Smith (they used to be close)

going home is like, almost the end

you can get a good experience out of jakas story and melmoth on their own I think. or church and state even! I’ll never apologize for my guiltiest pleasure!!!

does he still make people write “Dave Sim is not a misogynist” in all correspondence to him?

nope! he talks to me like a normal human being except for the fact that he only accepts faxes in the form of five questions? i think it used to be five questions per person only but hes obviously alone so ive faxed him multiple times without issue

like i used to have collected letters to dave sim (volumes one AND two) and laugh at them but hes never been nearly as mean to me as he is in a lot of those letters

hes probably nice to me because i dont come out swinging. because everything to be said about his misogyny has been said. i have other questions
