Speaking of Fujimoto, Look Back finally got a physical release in English.
I borrowed a couple of the Bloodborne TPBs: The Healing Thirst; The Veil, Torn Asunder. focussed on the backstory of the sorts of NPCs who cackle at you from behind locked doors. felt underdeveloped: what happened on this page? think hard ok, and why think more, give up
not what I was looking for, wanted weird gross explorations into the nightmare & uncomfortable scenes of clerics getting seduced by the blood OR dumb anime fights. people slowly going mad? ok, sure, you do you
Would love a BB novelization that was just like “The hunter fired their pistol at the beast, rolled to the side, took two steps forward then executed a three hit combo on the beast with the saw cleaver. Then, the beast caught the hunter off guard, striking them and depleting about one fifth of the hunter’s health. To recover…” over and over again for every encounter in the game. I guess maybe that’s just a walkthrough. Or like a textual LP
Get ulillillia to write it
I’ve always said what the Silent Hill movies needed was a good 10 minutes straight of hitting a dog with a pipe
That’d also improve any of the Beethoven movies.
Man, imagine how good Silent Hill would be if it starred Charles Grodin
did any of u ever read that comic “eden: it’s an endless world”. i think it was kind of published in the us as part of that dark horse “manga for adults” push with stuff like berserk or blade of the immortal or whatever… really nice art and very much in that like kojima-oshiipilled military tech / hardware fetish cyberpunk genre… sensitive white boy comic
Holy shit, so like five minutes ago one of my friends texted me to recommend Eden which of course I’ve never heard of as SB’s resident Anime Hater. It looks tight though.
I need to read thru Vattu, now that it’s completed after 12 years. Solo artist doing 3x pages a week, in color! I wish I had that stamina.
I wasn’t big on eden but that writer’s short works are pretty good (Tanpenshu, Halcyon Lunch) and All Rounder Meguru is as much as I’ll ever like MMA.
you hate anime? and here I was constantly trying to lure you into anime club
Noooo, I’m just hyper illiterate outside of anything Blockbuster had, and like Super Milk Chan.
I was ahead of the curve loving that Jojo movie that starts mid story with the water guy in Egypt back in like 2001. But otherwise I need someone exactly like you for anime and manga guidance.
blockbuster and 90s sci fi channel anime weekends is really all the anime anyone needs
I’ve been reading this:
It’s interesting, but I’m not sure what to make of it. Has anyone else read this one?
Ooh my friend whose a religious studies scholar with a particular interest in mormonism is reading this right now. i’ve been wanting him to join the forum, maybe this will be the perfect bait.
I read that, and I liked it. It reminded me a little of R. Crumb’s Book of Genesis, both in its reserved, consistent (but also nice and detailed) art style and in its approach of trying to stick closely to the source material. But instead of having the one traditional narrative in Genesis, Van Sciver had to dig around and try to find the “real” story among sometimes conflicting accounts.
It’s also a beautiful book, built-in bookmark and all.
RE: Mormon comics, I’ve wanted to read Mike Allred’s The Golden Plates but I’ve never come across a copy. Actually, I haven’t checked if its been scanned, maybe it has
