Circuit City on the Edge of Forever

As someone who runs Desktop Linux on two of my machines, just go with Win10 + WSL. You get all of the benefits of command line linux when you need it with none of the fun stuff like “I just updated my kernel and Nvidia drivers and my display is locked at 640x480 now”.

I would agree with that, I was enjoying Arch in the 2010s but WSL is just way easier for almost every use case now

Imagine my consternation when Google turns up the World Surfing League as the first result (but then what I was actually looking for a few later)

yeah wsl is great

if i went back ten years and told myself “there’s gonna be a global pandemic, also you’re gonna be in the middle of a pivot to webdev, using windows + linux 5.10.16.3-microsoft-standard-WSL2” the latter would be the bigger shock

The opengl etc drivers and any userland components are not included so don’t get too excited. From the phoronix article:

The kernel module components consist of the NVIDIA kernel driver, the NVIDIA-DRM integration, the NVIDIA-Modeset driver for display/mode-setting, NVIDIA-UVM for Unified Video Memory.

This is like, being able to set output resolution and stuff not hardware acceleration of anything (DRM is linux’s Direct Rendering Manager, nothing to do with digital rights management)

people are excited because this is anything after years of nothing

The power and format of the iPad mini is amazing and I really, really wish there were iOS games I wanted to play out there.

iPads are a lot of fun for music apps if that’s something you’re into.

What music apps would you suggest checking out?

Kaossilator is a great recommendation!

I like Model 15 and ielectribe too if you’re into virtual versions of hardware.

it’s really hard to beat a MacBook Air for the price because of battery life, what are you going to use it for?
