Circuit City on the Edge of Forever

I’ve been meaning to implement a layer turning the right side of my planck into a numpad (very important that this can be done one-handed obviously), which is I’m pretty sure quite close to what you’re looking for, will report back if I muster the ambition and/or share firmware file if you are a planckfolk like me

I use a preonic (sometimes (for some things))

is it possible to get a raspberry pi 3 b + to play video with kodi acceptably or is this simply a lost cause

it keeps turning the whole screen green after a few seconds for no apparent reason

I ponied up the couple bucks for the hardware acceleration unlocks and it handled everything but oddball prores files that blindsided me at a public screening.

the hardware acceleration only seems to be for MPEG-2, though?

3B definitely has hardware h264 but it’s wired up funny iirc, like it was using a nonfree driver or something for a while so you had to build your own ffmpeg or pay to unlock it

share what you wind up doing because I’ve forgotten

We set ourselves up for it by turning one of our movie nights at my friend’s record store into a fake film fest for non film makers and just leaving it open to the chaos of who ever decided to show up and what they brought. The film students with the oddball projects in fancy codecs were victims of my lack of planning but we were all at the mercy of the bro-y guy who showed up with a feature length gore movie of women getting tortured.

We did it again a year later and this dude brought a looong video tape of him secretly filming his friends in the mid 90s and half the room got really pissed about it and the other half was totally rapt because someone in the back of the audience started a rumor that there was going to be footage of an actual murder in there.

Oh yeah! I knew there were 2 but it looks like VC-1 is the other paid one, not h.264. Who even uses VC-1!?

much respect, though I’ve always wondered, is the preonic… comfy?? like I get the need, chorded numbers are like, ok, maybe you’re going too far, but also the thing I love about the planck is how I never have to move my hands farther than a row (which is weird to me that they don’t talk about more?? like the claims of “nonstaggered layout is definitely OrthoPedically Better… because science, also, math, you wouldn’t understand, no questions please” always come across a little snake oily to me, but the fact that I never have to move my hands is incredibly comfy, even if it takes some brainpower to type out an ip address)

of course, I took all this ortho potential and stuffed it with 78g zilent v2s, so like, my priorities are not exactly with ortho, but its a nice side benefit

EDIT: rereading this post it is barely legible but I hope you’ll be able to infer a point from all this

My favorite graphics card branding of all time is PowerColor’s “Evil” line:

There were others as well.

All with no external power connectors, tiny cooling solutions, and respect for your PCI AGP slot real estate.

I had a 9600 GT I think it was that was entirely passively cooled with a huge heat sync. No fans at all. It only got too hot and unstable once and that was in Crysis.

I ordered the last Roku model with composite output from Amazon and for the premium I paid they sent an even later model without composite output
