Is my understanding correct that explorer will run better if my spinning disks are in a NAS and not in my machine, indexed, etc.?
Iâm the sole madman here going âactually switchable graphics is better on linux than in windowsâ and Iâll die on this hill
eghhhhh
youâll get weird hitching here and there due to various factors
Iâve never ever had to even think about âswitchable graphicsâ because you can just span multiple monitors across GPUs from different vendors on Windows but every time they need a 3D context theyâll just pull the discrete GPU
if you have a laptop with 2 GPUs in it to the point where you have to think about when you want to use one or the other for power consumption reasons you have a bad laptop
The early days of switchable graphics on a laptop were truly dismal.
Windows does a magic trick when I detach the Saucer that moves things off of the dGPU for me. Itâs a stupid amount of effort to support the aforementioned OneNote clipboard use case
the issue that was happening was that Windows would only run stuff on whatever GPU was plugged into the display, in spite of the fact that it can look and see that both things are there and running and readily accessible, but AMD mucked with the drivers and Windows doesnât want AMD igpu+dgpu to work and play together
except when it does
anyway, they have an update brewing for Windows where you can manually select any GPU installed instead of the usual power saving/performance binary
Intel + nVidia has always been a perfect angel
looking forward to iGPU AMD again tho
clearly I am biased as I have found myself in the situation of two different all AMD builds but AMD is just less evil
theyâre still evil though
my ryzen build experience was really rough after a decade of intel stuff and i found legit satisfaction in throwing the stock cooler in the bin but there is something sort of weirdly charming about amd
my phone wouldnât stop showing me snoqualmie weather and when I reinstalled windows despite turning on location it set it to pacific time and Iâve been believing it was 2 hours earlier for the past 32 hours. I need a magneto helmet to keep the local psychosphere from interfering with the wifi
I have a 2+ hour 480p25 FLV that I youtube-dlâd from somewhere. Itâs about 700mb. I want to share it with an art class full of boomers for which even zoom is a challenge.
Should I re-encode it? Any suggestion on where to rehost it?
dead simply option is literally upload it back to youtube or vimeo or something, it probably wonât get copyright takedownâd too quickly and theyâll reencode for you.
definitely reencode to a yuv420p h264 mp4 if you want people to be able to download and watch it locally but I do not think that is the best option, itâs comparatively far easier to stream video when you take hosting into account
google drive and the various sites linked from watchepisodes/kimcartoon (eg putlocker) can actually stream from a browser window and itâll be a private link thatâs far less prone to takedown but they wonât do the reencoding for you so youâll want to do that anyway in that case.
Conveniently it appears to be h264 already, is there a simple way to get it in an mpeg container?

ffmpeg -i /path/to/file -c:v copy -c:a copy output.mp4
ffprobe /path/to/file will check the colourspace
Cable Guy today said our slow speeds are the apartments fault. We get 400Mbps wired so I am pretty certain itâs the horseshit wifi router. Tell me the Modem-Router to buy here please.
google drive seems like it would be best for rehosting, private, but the in browser player is the same as youtube so should hopefully be familiar. and it will allow downloads if people want to do it that way.

love to use the internet
good lord, mine sits around 15-20%
I just read some thing about the Chinese Govt cracking down on crypto mining and ownership, and a resulting drop in GPU prices? Dunno how legit the report was.
