Thank you!
Unfortunately I don’t see any versions of that model around. The other option is to pony up for the 256gb model which are still around, though that extra storage is going to be 100% useless, but that’s the price I pay for waiting until the last minute I guess.
What’s causing the shortage? Still semi-conductor related?
Unless the 2017 model is on deep clearance pricing I’d get the 256gb of the newer one or look around used – the SoC is over 2x as fast which will unfortunately come into play with even basic games as they hog resources and battery.
Similar what is the best iphone to get? I have an SE1 that is getting old.
idk if it’s the Best but this 8 i bought from a mate last year is holding up great
if you like the small ones, the 12 mini / 13 mini are great and probably won’t be repeated (latter has better GPU and battery, depends how much more you’d pay for it)
otherwise the Pros are very large but have pretty wild new camera features
the devil’s in the details and it’s not right to repair, but it’s surprising that the megacorps haven’t totally shrugged off the threat of regulation yet
Rossman begs to differ,
and funnily enough, i got that link from an avid apple product user, since i was nonchalantly shrugging it off as ‘why does that even matter to me, not using them apples’ … and felt caught red handed after watching it (which is what the artist probably wanted!)
So, if that’s what they are exporting to the rest of the industry, that’s actually not a win for us, i understand.
oh, no, i agree that this is misdirection (devil’s in the details) – that notwithstanding, i’m surprised they’re responsive at all when they could just as well ignore it. it’s weird that they care about PR and lobbying on this issue when it’s got to be so far down the list the US will never get to it. they’re going to get tied up in doing an american GDPR far before this ever hits the floor of our legislature.
If anything, it made me realize i am part of the problem for not caring (in my thinkpad ivory tower, ventilated with noctua fans) about these things, when i am complaining about the missing headphone jack on my phone and tablet.
Guilty!
(Let’s see how Samsung follows suit and does the same move, passing it off as an improvement when it is a step back)
unfortunately we should all care as long as this is the competition
do any of y’all use the trackpoint on a thinkpad? right now it’s wildly frustrating but the trackpad also feels like an afterthought so maybe it’s worth getting good
also very funny that a thinkpad is my lightweight worse-performing laptop now
Yeah I was into my track point when I had my little 12"x12" X60. Had to turn the sensitivity to max but it was my only computer for a few years.
Prolly still my fave laptop form factor and layout.
Why would you not use one of these?
Logitech M570.
Mine is slowly developing a clicky problem, and i am too lazy to solder on a new clicky switch, but it served me well for… well. IDK how long, that long ago it was.
Daily driver when WFH is one of these tho,
So that might have given the M570 a few more years…
I loved trackpoints for a while, but mine broke in the past year and I just can’t be bothered to fix it anymore. If you’re doing a lot of coding work and don’t want to move your hands from the homerow, then I can see it being helpful?
not to be a bummer but arthritis
the Mac trackpads are large enough that I can use my elbow to move my hand and save my fingers the trouble. I do the same thing with mice - super low DPI and wrist kept in line with my hand
I’m getting a little better with the trackpoint. I was always curious because I see these on custom QMK keyboards often for – like anothergod said – programers who don’t ever leave home row.
I’m seriously considering getting one of those 16gb RAM Mac M1 minis because they seem like they’d be decent for my graphic and art stuff and having a machine separate from my leisure machine might be good in keeping the former from needing to be cleaned up as often, and also, even the cost of a Mac Mini with a larger internal SSD would still cost me a bit less than what I’d pay for a computer that’s weaker or no better than what I already have (thanks to my CPU – apparently I got really lucky falling into this i7-3960x because it’s lasted me 5 years and it’s still keeping up with the times for the most part). I already have two monitors, as well as one at work so I can theoretically take it to work and use it as my work computer as well instead of hauling around this laptop.
Deals haven’t been great, though, and I don’t want to pay full-price for Apple. Adorama has the best deal on the 16gb/256gb via some apple website, but they won’t take PayPal even when I bypass their display: none override (if I can’t pay in 4 then go fuck yourself), and B&H has the best deal on the 16gb/512gb model (and they do accept PayPal right now), but I don’t think it’s worth paying what apple is charging for the additional storage plus the 10% sales tax I’m charged on top of that, because at that point, I’m only a few hundred off from the skittle macs with the monitor, and a fancy display is a lot more useful than some extra GBs of storage.
Would I be disappointed with how I intend to use it?
every so often, something disappears from my start menu
on this latest reboot spotify and discord have vanished
i wonder how long before it’s completely empty
missing osx 10.6 and win2k
oh yeah my tech black friday story is i got a samsung 980 pro cheap… with a free google nest home hub and i was sort of tempted to set the thing up and try to figure out what the hell anyone uses these things for but nah i’m gonna flip it
Usually that’s because the apps auto updated themselves in a way that broke the shortcuts
Unless they were ms store apps in which case lol gj microsoft
