So the concern is that data from Bitwarden is being stolen? Or can be stolen? Or has been stolen? I haven’t seen any solid security reports that it’s particularly vulnerable to attack beyond the norm but I’m not an expert by any means.

the main concerns for me are that things that are free are generally still paid for by some other means of data collection, and something that’s paid for has much less need to be reliant on such things, and therefore doesn’t need to make compromises (to security or otherwise) to accommodate that. Bitwarden’s free tier also omits fundamental security functionality like 2FA, and frankly in 2021 that’s obscene. That’s a large part of why I pay for email and other critical portions of the security of my online activities; I want them to stick around, and not have any perverse incentives to start being heinous. That being said, more VC money brings with it perverse incentives, so, we’ll see how long that lasts in 1Password’s case

Actually terrified to turn on 2fa for my password manager because it would mean that if my phone is lost/stolen I am fucked

I’d suggest either getting a hardware key like a Yubikey and keeping it with your regular keys, making sure you put your recovery tokens somewhere safe (and preferably non-digital) and possibly both

but tbf I work at a tech company and have some need to take aggressive security posture here so ymmv

yeah I do tech work to the extent that I am at least aware of this product category but I also find the idea of investing further in it (via subscriptions and/or additional hardware) so dismal and boring that I just let chrome manage my passwords.

lots wrong with google but they do not have breaches

I went through and turned on every 2FA in 1Password I could last weekend and got a shitlist of companies that don’t support FIDO U2F in the process

1password is legit excellent on every platform & totally takes the hassle out of this, that’s why i’m worried about them shitting it up!!!

my password manager is failing to remember my password for anything that google doesn’t store, then going to google settings and having it tell me I have 117 compromised passwords, none of which I can actually change

running a signal line through a power supply does seem like the kind of thing that would introduce a shitload of noise you don’t want so

I fixed hitching in Destiny 2 by unplugging every disk but my SSD

It worked but why

It sits at 30% CPU utilization (8700k) and 60% GPU utilization (2080 Ti) regardless of most settings lol

windows I/O interrupt handling is bad on a very low level

Ah, I suspected Windows!

NAS time? I can DIY with a spare Haswell i5 or just buy Synology. I don’t need hw encode on the NAS side.

I have a DS418 I’m very happy with, don’t pay retail, but their software is exceptional and makes the somewhat overpriced hardware worth it, probably the best custom end-user Linux distro I’ve ever used for what it is
