Yeah, the meta-videogame violence thing doesn’t click with me so much. It’s a valid point but I think the game is more interesting than that.

A lot of the characters have super-negative traits and it’s an interesting question of whether they deserve to survive the grotesqueries given how, well, grotesque they are. A good example of this is Verdelet apparently being a man of faith who understands the horror of what they face better than anyone and his cowardice is kinda justified (even though this is presented as his major flaw). Verdelet mainly just yells about how futile it all is and you get the sense that maybe humanity isn’t really worth saving but perhaps that’s just like a negative self-voice. Like the game is trying to say that despite our sins, we’re still preferable to a world of Gods.

They go to some pretty crazy lengths to stop shit happening though.
