not that short, two seasons and 48 episodes. first season is best for lots of spooky X-Files investigations that resolve with over-the-top battles. but second season has more screen time with the even bigger jock bully who is a fanatical idol fan and is powered by the power of brotherhoodshipness
I may as well, it feels like Iâm culturally out of the loop. Blindfold guy, hammer girl, whatâs their story. Maybe now is the time for me to find out.
if youâre looking for a modern short lighthearted anime, Astro Note is a pretty fun 12 episode rumiko takahashi wannabe show that purposefully goes for an 80s vibe. it is not popular i guess so i donât know how in the loop it will make you
Oh Iâm not really concerned with being in the loop, haha. Big stack of 80s/90s stuff I gotta work through to attest to it.
well, all you had to do was ask
Feeling personally attacked right now. Top Favorite might be a stretch but it is when I want something that isnât water or a soda.
Another good short one was Bang Bave Bang Bravern if you want to watch a 13 episode love letter to 90s robot shows with the gayest robot/pilot dynamic the world has seen.
There was a Space Ace cartoon series = o
iâve been watching heidi girl of the alps (1974) and anne of green gables (1979) side by side with a friend and loving them! iâm kind of ghibli-ambivalent but maybe early isao takahata is the truth. i love this twitter account with one of my favorite bios ever:
happy to report that i can feel myself being drawn into the âanne swampâ
Both of these series amazing and if you enjoy them you owe it to yourself to go deep on the rest of nippon animationâs world masterpiece theater. 3000 leagues in search of mother, adventures of tom sawyer, little women are the best ones besides anne and heidi
If only anime fandom was all about obsessing over world masterpiece theater. I would feel a sense of belonging.
itâs a shame i wonât be able to afford the now out of print grimms fairy tales blu rays before all the copies disappear forever
seconding 3000 leagues (even tho i havent finished it) gorgeous show, remarkable sense of place.
also ive long been waiting for an excuse to post the best heidi fanwork
(i knew about this video as a kid but only recently discovered its an Anime Reference and i am unreasonably excited about this)
people are mad that they made heatwave and livewire girlfriends on the superman cartoon but not mad for the correct reason which is that they should have named the heat wave character volcana because like livewire, volcana originated in superman the animated series and has not returned in any other media and it would have been good symmetry and
Mizuiro Jidai is very sweet and cute, buncha middle schoolers have totally mundane hangups and learn to be more understanding with each other
the latest episode preview was called âChanging Classesâ its just the protagonist musing about how Spring is âthe season of changeâ and looking all weepy and emo im so excited
ohhh i really love these vibes
90s shojo hits different
i ended up dipping into some 90s shojo after coming across this mal account, im generally fond of the vibes esp. in the more mundane ones but mizuiro jidai is the first thats really clicked with me. well i guess i liked the first 5 eps of Baby & Me as well
also the way the ED sneaks in at the end of every episode is burned into my memory (timestamped)
hmm i might get back to that show⌠maybeâŚ
- Goldfish Warning! is a top tier shojo comedy from the early 90s (Junichi Sato did the anime)
- the 90s Chibi Maruko-chan anime is the best adaptation. Everyone should watch Chibi Maruko-chan. Sheâs a horrible brat and itâs great
- Mikan Enikki is a slice of life shojo about a talking cat that happens to be animated by Nippon Animation (aforementioned World Masterpiece Theater company) and directed by the legendary Noboru Ishiguro (Space Battleship Yamato, Macross, Orguss, Megazone 23 Part 1, Legend of the Galactic Heroes)
- Gokinjo Monogatari is a great adaptation of Ai Yazawaâs manga. Absolutely overflowing with style.
just listing ones that I have seen, and fit into the general mundane slice of life milieu (you will have to forgive me for including one with a talking cat)
Masaaki Yuasa, in his early days, animated this wonderful sequence in a 1992 Chibi Maruko-chan movie
forgive? i wouldnt even contemplate giving you shit for it
