Uuuhh preemptive warning for the never ending child nudity
yeah, i had to stop because it just keeps going with that shit. the combination of it plus the amount it puts them through just really made me feel gross very quickly.
i did like the general world stuff, but it’s also all done better by haibane renmei imo.
It’s weird because it’s completely gratuitous and neverending but also seems like the show isn’t leering the way a lot of anime do? Idk, I’m not invested enough to defend it if other people think it’s gross I guess the warning is reasonable.
the show probably tamped down on the leering that was ever present in the comic
lol what in the hell
who works for these production companies
fucking cant wait for another netflix animated series where everyone has perfectly circular eyes
this one is from carl jones of boondocks/black dynamite so it might be more anime style???
oh i missed that! good news actually!
okay they renewed fake venture bros now just do it to the real one
hey Oregairu/Romcom SNAFU (in cartoon form, in book form it’s been over and spoilers have been floating around) is about to end forever and they finally got to the “well he chose which girl he’s hung around with for the whole story to hook up with” part and
hey spoilers
I knew how this was going to end going in
and yet it still hurts
I guess I blew through all my romcom cartoon karma for the year after my quint and Girl Who Won’t Study both won
this is why you don’t engage with these, you’re gonna get heart broken. Hatsukoi Zombie is really bad btw
no
I will engage with this garbage
it is my imperative, nay, duty to engage and cheer on the girl I know won’t win
i like shorts! they’re comfy and easy to watch!
here’s a fun short (bunch of shorts edited together actually) about burger clowns
and here are a couple really cool shorts yt recommended to me that i can only describe as “surrealist cd-i game aesthetic”
both animators have other neat shorts worth checking out (worthikids especially is one of my faves)
Oh shit Land of the Lustrous is pretty damn cool, yeah
Hit a point of lockdown ennui and decided to watch the FLCL additions.
Medical Mechanic won and punk lost. The world has been flattened and freed of all texture allowing for ease of processing.
Progressive felt like such a retread that got to have a little textured style as a treat in ep 5. I think the most this did was make it apparent how toxic Haruko is. Her space foil was kinda nice to have around.
Alternative felt like it had more going on with its characters and actually addressed the human aspects of being a late teen/young adult. The ending felt a little to convenient but the build up for it almost worked on me.
At some level you can feel some of the anarchic spirit and disappointment of the systems failure to actually work but its so processed and flat that it in no way hits like the original. Even the Pillows sound kinda tired but my heart is still a slave to those tones and melodies that instantly takes me back to when I first saw FLCL.
I don’t hate it. It’s just blatantly apparent nostalgia cash grab.
One of the weird things about people wanting more FLCL is you can literally just watch FLCL again whenever you want and it’s always spectacular.
There’s also Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi while more crass and broad still has lot of similar energy that hits harder than the new FLCLs. I’m only assuming there was at least some staff overlap being from the same studio.
There’s a trailer for the third “season” (I feel like they’ve all come out within the last 6 months but time is meaningless so what do I know) of Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts now
I won’t link to it bc it has major season 2 spoilers and I don’t think that many people on here have watched the show yet
But I really recommend it, it is cute and mildly amusing and has great music
The second season was not as good as the first because they focused too much on plot stuff rather than leisurely worldbuilding, but the actual plot that they decided the show would be about starting at the end of s1 is actually pretty good, so I think it’s still worth watching.
