Alright folks, it’s the beginning of the end. I’m putting Anime Club on an indefinite hiatus - but not before we finish out some business!
Specifically, we’re going to finish Cowboy Bebop (and watch the movie), Nichijou, and the first season of Urusei Yatsura. And we’ll end with the 4th Urusei Yatsura movie because I read one review of it that seemed really good.

Is everyone excited for this tomorrow at 4 pm central? You might think that the above is mistake, but NO, I have decided to go with the canonically best Urusei Yatsura movie instead. I’m re-encoding it right now! Nobody can stop me from changing my mind!!

okay so the video still hasn’t processed in Google Drive even though I uploaded it like 12+ hours ago, so I don’t think this is going to work. I have a couple of backup plans but check this thread closer to time just in case I need to stream this over discord or something weird.

it is 100% fitting that for the very last club i was amply prepared for the first time, and still had unresolvable issues. so it goes, so it goes
Alright, anime club is officially on hiatus!! I had a terrific time running it, through the trials and tribulations of figuring out how HandBrake works, forgetting to upload files, having files just straight-up not work, etc. etc. etc.
Some closing thoughts from me:
- Hellsing fucking sucked, I loved it so much, it was godawful. I’m so glad I watched it with y’all. Thanks especially to @Closed for continuing to torture yourself with it
- I would never have watched Urusei Yatsura without someone suggesting it, and it turned out to be pretty damn good. Beautiful Dreamer is a great movie as well, a wonderful way to close out. Thanks @HOBO for suggesting the show!!
- I’m glad I caught up to what Sailor Moon actually is (much goofier than I imagined). It didn’t like, blow me away I guess, but it’s also children’s media that I’m watching in my mid-30’s!!! It was extremely cute though. I’m glad I was able to entice @miffy to watch a few via teasing Sailor Jupiter’s appearance
- Holy fuck Nichijou is so good and funny. The last two episodes made me cry!! I’m glad I have friends!!! Every day is a miracle!!
- Dirty Pair, what the heck, it’s very good. I love those two weirdos. Sorry we didn’t watch more of it @AutomaticTiger but thanks for bringing it to the club!!
- Cowboy Bebop is something I absolutely needed to see, I think it’s very good. The movie was pretty much just an extra episode, but stretched out a little too thin…but any excuse to hang out with those characters! Ed is closer to my soul than almost any fictional character. Thanks @Grandpa for the movie and just like, hanging out so much!!
I think that’s it! I had a great time, but I’m definitely ready for a break. I was struggling at the end to get excited for this, so that’s a good reason to call it off for now. I’ll likely start up again when four things line up:
- I have a new lineup
- I can find a good time that’s not 4 PM central, which is highly inconvenient for many people
- I’m not like, annoyed at the thought of processing a bunch of videos
- It’s not summer.
Which likely means a 4-6 month hiatus until winter, when I can get this back together.
Anyway!! I’m super proud of myself for running this for so long and giving it a good end. I’m supper happy I got to catch up on Anime Basics as well. this was a great time and meant a lot to me even if it was just Some Kids Shows For Maybe, Like, 5 People At A Time At Most.
Also thanks to @shrug and @Tulpa and @la_ciel and @stavekoff and anyone else i’m forgetting who showed up and made me feel like this was worth doing.
