Where does that character design aesthetic come from? Journey? There were one or two other games in the Nintendo indie showcase just now with a similar look. Hob is another less recent example.

We could almost call it a second-person character; a game that needs something so abstract as to bring the player almost completely inside but which needs to draw legs, arms, bodies, flowing capes

I’m fond of that sort of player abstraction but the specific UC-Santa Cruz style it’s done in can is a bit overplayed at the moment

With those proportions it’s straight up the homestuck vagabond, which predates Journey by a couple years, but you can easily go all the way back to FF’s black mages.

what’s this?

Big enough game design school that it has a notable house style; birthed studios like That Game Company, Mobius Digital (Outer Wilds), Giant Sparrow. Holds a similar position in my head as Cal Arts’ animation school and its trademarks (smirk faces).

That honestly makes me nostalgic for early 2000s webgames. But that official Amico logo animation reeks of DOA consoles.

I watched it just for that clip

but it’s 3D in the worst way and it has this long turning animation with ??no relation?? to its very important tail/mouth hitbox

yeah i skipped forward to the shark shark bit and it was very much that xbox 360 off brand shark shark but worse

I’d love to find out why they think this thing is going to sell to regular folks. Like what’s their business plan look like? Why would a kid want this? Why would a grandparent buy this for a kid? You can get a kid a kindle for 70 bucks and get something close enough to the experience of this thing that the sort of parent who would buy this for a kid instead of a 3DS or a Switch is going to go for that.

I mean for that matter, a New 2DS XL is $150? A 2DS is $70? Those at least have mario and zelda and pokemon, albeit ‘out of date’ ones. Who is the person who buys this thing?

why is there such a thing as a ‘lead system architect’ anymore when you’re basically just going to pcpartpicker and ordering in bulk

anyone who was missing Arcade sports games lately has to play this with me

Well
I didn’t understand anything and will continue waiting for a consumer presentation

PS5 is the Xbox One to Xbox Series X’s PS4

same focus on customized disk storage to manage stagnant RAM growth

some custom audio hardware that may only ever be meaningful if you’re wearing headphones
