Seriously, i feel like the time has come for me to understand that console gaming isn’t really for me anymore?
Like, what if someone doesn’t want to have new services? maybe just want to play a game for less than five hours during the week?
During that timespan, maybe we don’t want to be disturbed by updates, streamers, game creators and, least of all, the cloud, exciting new content, i.e. ads, shoved in our face?
idk, maybe that’s just me:
I just wanna enjoy my time with a game, and not need to think of a piece of software that needs to be patched every so often, of course after the operating system of the console/PC has been patched and rebooted once or twice beforehand (srsly, why is there a difference between PC and console anyway, anymore?) , only to be urged to download yet another patch if i should decide to play another game the same day, god beware?
… yeah, i know i am ready for pruning my backlog and resort to retro gaming in the future, don’t @ me, i feel so 1980ies grumpy granddad today.
Hm. As impressive as this is, the most appealing aspect of any Ultima game I’ve seen has been the way Ultima: Exodus looks on the NES. It’s just got such an interesting aesthetic and sense of character design, that has haunted me for over 30 years even as I’ve found myself unable to really play the game. For that to be the major thing you’d ditch in a patch… uh. I would… question one’s sanity, more so than just artistic judgment.
so console makers can make money off services and licensing fees
basically a console is a cheaper PC, and in return for cheaper hardware you get more expensive software and a walled ecosystem. oh, and sony will pay companies to keep their games off of the PC for a year every now and again, so there’s that.
Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection is now out for all the consoles and PC and seems to do mostly what you want with all 4 GBA Zero games as well as the two for DS ZX and ZX Advent.
Art galleries, unlockable character profiles, music player but also some nice extras like toggleable (like right in the middle of levels if you just select it there in the pause menu) extra checkpoints and extra easy mode. What I completely missed though is that it also has a time attack mode that you can play either alone, vs CPU, vs downloaded player ghost or even local split-screen multiplayer:
Can even use an arranged soundtrack for this mode instead of GBA audio.
I really only know Touhou mostly from late aughts flash cartoon music videos so I’m very glad all the following songs have been confirmed to be apart of Spell Bubble (the Puzzle Bobble rhythm game from Taito)
Only missing
One thing regarding the gameplay though is that all matches seem to only be decided by points and only end after the time limit (song) is up which of course makes sense and all when you think about it. Won’t be any quick any decisive victories over in seconds here though if you overwhelm your opponent. Lots of footage in this ZUNTATA stream
Played this tonight. It’s pretty fun. Very different flavor from Senko no Ronde but arguably better in a lot of ways. I still like a lot of Senko no Ronde’s personality and character gameplay designs, but you feel like you can actually KO people in M&S.
