They sure did cast those dreams.
I dunno, I kept waiting for the punchline here. What’s the point of faithfully making a Pokemon game if there’s no improvements OR subversion? I dunno. I just don’t get it.
The pixel art is very nice though.
Nifflas’s sound design is always spot on.
Every Swedish game designer thinking they so damn clever just naming their games Swedish words like they’re ikea I swear
Reminds me of stuff people were trying to do with the DS some 15 years ago.
Yeah my first thought was “wow this pixel art is amazing” and then I saw the pokemon Tall Grass and went “oh…”
It seems like we’re at the point where ‘let’s clone Stardew Valley for the PC’ has morped into ‘let’s clone other characteristically Nintendo games for the PC’
and they keep getting rewarded for it, TemTem is insanely huge right now
I went into this trailer assuming I’d be disappointed to find another first person dungeon crawl with real time combat, but no this one has turned based combat! That’s got me interested.
It’s by the Zen Pinball people. I think it released a while ago on Xbone and Epic Game Store, but now it’s coming to Switch, PS4, Steam, and GOG.
i’m disappointed this isn’t a first person dungeon crawler with real time combat.
this is Harvest Moon erasure
I reckon I’d be down for this if I didn’t already just beat Bard’s Tale IV a couple months ago…
yeah, for this kind of project i imagine the “point” is not to stand out from the existing work, but instead to earnestly blend in, snuggle up, regress into reverie
also, i find it totally plausible that there are a contingent of pokemon fans who reacted strongly against the main series going 3D, so of course this is Finally bringing back our childhoods etc etc
gosh it annoys me how much Stardew Valley has blown away any memory Harvest Moon, especially when it improved by:
- Being on PC
- Adding a modern progression/achievements system (the goal structure provided by the town centre)
And then not having any egregious issues!
It’s Threes / 2048 all over
I think this is the really gross and damaging part of this. The studios making these games don’t just clone the game that happens to be within the current 20-year nostalgia window, they keep moving forward because that old game already exists and there’s nothing to be gained by indulging in it again.
Play the old game again! if you want. Redirecting cultural energy to soak in a tepid bath of nostalgia is so frustrating.
but you already said you don’t like baths
yeah and I mean it!
for how easily an outsourced animation set to music captures the feelings that this much more expensive game absolutely fails to do
why are such easy human things so hard in games
frankly I’m just glad that people are learning that “outsourcing” isn’t a bad thing to do when it means “paying professionals to do what they’re good at and making the work stronger overall,” I feel like it’s so easy to get confused about that if you’re a certain variant of broke-ass cultural protestant
