I would recommend an Ice Blue GBA with a back light mod.

I had an atomic purple GBC despite having always hated translucent electronics, only because when I went to the store to pick up Pokémon Yellow and a Game Boy Color, that was the only one in stock. I really wanted a purple one.
I sold my GBC to Gamestop for a pittance when I got my GBA SP and regretted it almost instantly.
Some years later a friend of mine bought me a lime green one. I’m really glad I have it, though I think I only played it once. Might play it more now that my GBA SP doesn’t want to hold a great charge.
Now that I’ve realized teal/cyan is my favorite color, I want that teal one, though. But there’s really no reason to do that.

if i got a gameboy color id want a solid color, either green or teal or pink
i might just get that third party knockoff one loki recommended though
i never had a GBC because they seemed pointless to me at the time, but in retrospect, i like them and their design and at least some of the titles. one of these days i will get a cool one and add a backlight.
Transparent casings make me uncomfortable because chips and cables and pcbs have always reminded me of guts. That’s the only reason I’m not the greatest electrical engineer in USA

Bizarrely, I don’t think I’ve ever connected my extreme squeamishness about guts and innards with my distaste for transparent electronics and obviously those have got to be super linked.

My brother had one of the crystal clear original gameboys and I always thought it was rad as hell at 5 years old or whatever. He also had a clear telephone.
Guts are pretty neat imo
Them bursting out of horrible wounds or whatever is bad, but if people had like transparent skin that would be rad
I saw Kermit the Frog getting an x-ray on Sesame Street and ran out of the house crying

I once got a fluoroscopy of my guts and was able to see stuff squishing around in there in real time. It was pretty neat!!

trying to imagine the alternate world where ff7 came out on that thing and nintendo and sony were permanently partnered as a monolithic console manufacturer and game studio
