why’s it called the switch then hu hu hu

The number of times I’ve played my switch in handheld mode can probably be counted on my hands.

It’s really interesting to me how much that breakdown looks different for people. In the 3 months I’ve had a Switch, it’s probably like 30% docket 70% handheld and I’ve only taken it out of the house once.

To be fair the number of times I’ve actually played my switch could probably be counted on three or four hands.

There’ve been times where I’ve played mostly handheld, tabletop (with an adjustable stand), or docked at home because that’s what made sense under specific circumstances. I’ve taken the Switch with me to set up at a friend’s place, but I’ve never played it during a commute or in a public space–it seems way too big for that.

hell yeah

This post and some others you have made have reminded me that changing the new versions of games just because, is real annoying.

I would have played bad company 2 map packs for the past 10 years. Similarly, BF4 is still as good as numbered Battlefield has ever been.

not a battlefield guy so I wouldn’t know but there are definitely been a few examples in recent years where a franchise accidentally peaked and then they were still compelled to keep making more mainline entries rather than doing something different and it’s kind of a bummer

I’ve literally never docked it. I’ve played with detached controllers on a table with a friend a couple of times.

yeah portability would be the entire point for me, otherwise it’s just lower fidelity ports of old games for £60

the ‘switch’ concept seems really confused and more like something 00s microsoft would have done

I only dock it to play smash or mario maker locally with pals

really think it’s a phenomenal hardware design for 80/20 portable if the portable is almost all single player and the docked is almost all not

the alternative, remember, is nintendo making two platforms with goofy specs instead of this one that’s really good

yes third party software is often overpriced and lower spec but the first party software is actually good nowadays and the third party stuff is still a nice option in many cases for many people

yeah i’ll probably end up buying a lite if smt5 isn’t this gen’s gradius 6 (or multiplatform)

I am distressingly, perilously, close to seriously considering maybe getting a Switch as if I need to expand my backlog-generation capabilities

You need a better PC for Raven Shield? You could probably run Raven Shield on my 2013 Camry’s dashboard console

i never dock my switch since i don’t have a tv.

my laptop is big time dogshit and I need a better PC in the sense that playing raven shield on here would be incredibly uncomfortable for a variety of reasons. If I get a new laptop I’ll be able to cuz maybe the keyboard would actually fucking work worth a shit on it

not even sure about Overland at this point tbh, even as the world’s biggest SRPG combat fan I’m just not sure this structure of game works as more than a distraction. into the breach already felt like it was missing a trick to me and I’ve seen other games try to finagle it into an FTL-type structure that worked about as well as this

Overland didn’t strike me as an SRPG, more just a… roguelite? Same genre as Out There Ω and Pokémon battles without knowing about move types

yeah, when I say SRPG I’m I guess negotiating exactly how involved the combat decides to be vis-a-vis the resource management, and I think FTL is still a better model for that part than this or bedlam (which is another in this model)
